WHAT HIGHWAY TIRE IS GOOD

My truck came with 245/75/17 CONTINENTAL CONTITRAC well the rear tires wore out at 16,000 miles. Front tires will be changed next week they only lasted to 30,000 miles. I bought 265/70/17 FIRESTONE TRANSFORCE for the rear, They have a little better traction when the street is wet, but I still fish-tail, I think the FIRESTONE is only a little better, cause they are 1 inch wider, I'll put some 265/70/17 PIRELLI SCORPION STR next week see if they are better:humm:

CSIPSD 08-18-2010 07:45 PM

You ever rotate your tires? I have only once had a set of tires not go over 50k... Every 3-5k rotate the fronts to back...

I have had good luck with Toyo AT's in that size...

funcruise 08-18-2010 08:43 PM

I have had good luck with Michelins. I find they wear like iron as compared to the Goodrear Wranglers I had before them. But then again I dont drive hammer down and fishtail too much......

Dr. Evil 08-18-2010 10:04 PM

Toyo AT or HT

Michelin LTX got 60+k on my truck (they are TERRIBLE on ice and snow but that shouldnt be an issue for you)

24vmatt 08-18-2010 11:31 PM

X2 on the Michelin LTX:c:

NO I haven't rotated my tires, BUT I would expect the fronts to wear quicker than the rear:humm:
MICHELIN are about $220 per tire !!!

You're gonna get what you pay for and you won't beat a Michelin as far as treadwear or ride quality :c:

gunman41mag 08-19-2010 03:02 PM

I paid $335 for the pair of FIRESTONE TRANSFORCE mounted & I paid $358 for the pair of PIRELLI SCORPIONS but I still have to pay for mounting. Just want good HIGHWAY TIRES at a fair price:ouch:

millco 08-21-2010 05:25 AM

Where did you see Michelins for only $220??

I will get 60,k out of this set of LTX's!! They have been great! Now, I did put it in the ditch once so now I have to wonder about Dr's comment . . . .

If I hadn't towed that heavy toy hauler across the country and back, I think I may have gotten 70,k out of those tires. When we got out to Virginia, I couldn't believe how bad the rear tires had worn. Even with all that tongue weight, I must have been slipping them quite a bit :scare2: Because your rear tires drive you around, they will wear faster than the front. Rotate every 5,k to 8,k and you will even out the wear and get more miles out of a set of tires!!

I don't need ALL-TERRAINS, I'm looking for tires that are good in the rain & give me good MPG:tu::tu:

cummins freak 08-23-2010 01:58 AM

they're not really AT's just better traction then the SRT's look at them is all im saying

bobcat67 08-23-2010 04:10 AM

Nitto dura grappler has been a great tire from what i've heard on heavy diesel pickups, they kinda almost remind me of a semi-truck tire, I wish i could run em, unfortunately they don't make em in a 40x15.50R22, but i think they're reasonably priced and don't cost an arm and a leg, unlike my toyo MT's which in the size mentioned above are over 1k a piece :c:

I been running 285-75/17 (34") Duras on my 1st Gen for a couple years now and love 'em. Quiet, wearing well. Highest rated load capacity in that class, 3950, IIRC.

BLACKDX 08-24-2010 06:32 PM

Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ. Second set now 60 k on the first set. I found them good on wet or icey roads. Best tire I have had so far , on all my trucks for my use..

Dude_57 09-08-2010 12:23 AM

I work at discount tire and everyone seems toike the Michelin tires it's your preference as in which one to get but their tread life is amazing!!! I'm about to get me a set of Michelin a/t's

nateswimm 09-12-2010 05:47 PM

i have the nitto duragrappler. i love them. a little heavy but i also went up a size and wider a size.

gunman41mag 09-14-2010 02:37 PM

These 265/70/17 PIRELLI SCORPION STR are alot better than the FIRESTONE TRANSFORCE !!!

tiremann9669 09-14-2010 02:41 PM

You're convinced already, what if they're bald next month :humm:

In the rain, the PERELLI don't lose traction like the FIRESETONE & CONTINENTAL:yeah:

CharlieFoxtrot 09-27-2010 07:43 PM

I have the Pirelli Scorpion STR-A. It's a highway tire. Had ~50K on them when I bought the truck and they looked like they'd go ~80K. Put 10K more on them and the fronts still look like they're good for ~80K but the backs.... :td: :w2: Maybe if I drove like a granny, I wouldn't need new tires...

HOWEVER, with my 2wd 2500 and a tight limited slip, they're TERRIFYING in the rain! I almost spun the truck around within the first mile after buying it! :s: And that WAS driving gently!

When I'm shopping for tires, I always check the reviews, surveys, and test results at Tire Rack - Your performance experts for tires and wheels

I've been having good results in the rain, better than the FIRESTONE or the CONTINENTAL
