Time for new tires
 

Well its that time again, I need new tires for the dodge. I run 285/75/16s in an 8 ply, currently ran the Nitto Terra Grapplers, I like the tread design and they were a quiet tire, however i wasnt impressed with the milage i got out of them. I didnt do any burnouts, or heavy hauling, the most i haul is a little mixer for work and it cany weigh more than 1,000 lbs. I am "off road" every day on job sites and my driveway is gravel/dirt. I want a tire that gets more milage than what i got out of these (maybe 15,000). I was looking at Toyo open Country H/t, Kumho Road Venture SAT KL61. I need some help here guys, buying tires every year for inspection sucks and I would like to get over 20k miles out of a set of tires.

I've had two sets of the nittos and always had shorter tread life but they balanced amazingly and have great traction, I had the 8 ply on my 98 and only got 20k out of them but went to the 10ply on the 06 and they are lasting much longer I think these have around 30k on them now and still have about a third left. I had put the new hancook a/t's on it at first because of the 50k warranty and they couldn't balance the tires they were too out of round so they took them back and gave me the nittos. I've heard good things about the toyo's longevity but could never bring myself to spend that much, you know spending more on tires that would last longer makes sense doesn't it :argh:. I also just put a set of Goodyear wrangler DuraTrac's on the dully and like them so far they definitely have a good tread pattern

I'm running 10ply Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armour's and am really impressed with them. They are the 3rd set I've run between two different trucks. 20,000kms and the fronts still look new, the rears are a different story. When Fountain Tire does it's 4 for 3 sale in the fall they come in at a decent price. My 305/70R16's came in a little under $1300 Canadian for all 4 installed, balanced, with new valve stems. I'm really happy with the tires.

A old coworkers buddy swears by Goodyear's Dura Trax. They are rather aggressive though.

I'd get a set of the Nitto Dura Grappler if you're looking for a tire that will last a long time, they aren't the prettiest, but they sure look like they'd last a long time

Thanks guys. I have thought about the Dura Grapplers but with some of the job sites i have to get down into i could see myself easily getting stuck. Thats what i like about the tread design of the Terra Grapplers and the Toyo Open Country H/t and even the Kumho SAT, its not a full out street tire and i can get good traction if and when i need it with a slightly more aggresive tread design.

I hated my terra grapplers. I only got 10,000 miles out of them and now they have hardly any tread. I dont burnout or drive hard, they are great lookin tires but hardly any treadlife. Get the BFG A/T's, I have 20,000 miles on them and they still have over 85% tread left and they are 10 plys

Well from input from you guys and lots of research and reading, i have come to the conclusion that no matter what brand of tire we run on our trucks in order to get the performance we want the tires must be an E-rated(10 ply) tire. I think Im going to go with Kuhmo and see how they do. any one run Kuhmos?

I have duler at revos, i love em. I drive my truck NASCAR style to much i get verry agressive.

i have the Cooper Zeon LTZs and love them so far, i run a 305/55/20, have about 6k on them give or take and they still look brand new, and my driving habbits do tend to get agressive some days :w2:

got over 50k on my general a/t grabbers i was very impressed with the snow and ice traction
not so much with the mud but i dont go of road much at all , i mam looking for a new set right now but want to go bigger than the 265/70/17 and cant find them in the general a/t grabbers
but i would strongly recommend these tires
