Jungle flares - any good???
 

I just upgraded my wheels/tires from stock 16 x 6.5 rims to 16 x 8 rims and went from 245/75/16s to 305/70/16 Kumho KL78s. Couldn't be happier. Put a couple hunderd miles on the truck this weekend and they handle great on the highway. Quiet and smooth. Work just fine on loose dirt and gravel. No binding or rubbing.

Only issue is that with 4" offset, they stick out about 2 in. in the back and 3 in. in the front. I was looking at some fender flares (smooth, not pocket flares). Only two I can find that offer 2.5" to 3" extension are Buchwackers and Jungle flares. Buchwackers seem to be ABS plastic and cost around $425 a set. Jungle flares claim to be fiberglass and cost $250 a set. Bushwackers have a decent name, but never heard of Jungle flares.

Are jungle flares any good? I'd rather have fiberglass than ABS and the price is lower too?

Any experience appreciated.

One thing to watch is that most flares rub right through your paint and are a potential spot to start rusting once youre down to bare metal.

Is 2-3 inches of the tire hanging out that big of a deal?? or do you have laws that require the fenders/flares to cover the tire completely??

Normally it's not a big deal, but all it takes is onestate trooper with an attitude and you have a mountain of paperwork and fines. Actually, I'd rather have some sort of coverage for the larger tires. Looks a bit less like a kid's truck if the tires don't stick out too much.

I've run flares before on other trucks with larger tires and I've found that if you make sure that the flares have a quality rubber trim stip where they contact the fender and if you bed the fender bead in adhesive, they usually don't wobble around enough to wear through the paint.

I'd just never heard of jungle flares before and they're the only ones I can find for a gen 2 Ram that are made of fiberglass.

I dont believe you can buy a single bushwacker unless something has changed.
