Leafs To Coils??

ok i was wondering if its posable to convert a 2001 7.3 with leafs to coilsprings. i love the look of coils and me bein the stuborn chick i am want my new lift to be coil springs. looks better and rides better. so question is can it be done? how can it be done? and how much of a pain in the a$$ it will be to do it. and of corse the cost to do it. thanks guys and gals!!

I suspect you would have to go to a 4 link suspension and weld up some brackets to mount the coils in. If your gonna go this far though you may as well go the air bag route.

IIRC i've seen a few lift kits that convert to 4 link with coils. might want to look into this and maybe level it out or add a leaf in the back to make it lever once the front lift is done.....

Here's a link to a Pro-Comp coil conversion: 4wd 99-04 Super Duty

Yeah! Looks BA!!:rocking:

Now here's the retail site:
Fabtech K2042 4.0 Coilover Conversion System w/Rear Performance Shocks 6 in. Lift Incl. Front Component Box PN[FTS22075BK] Rear Long Travel Leaf UBolt Box Kit - Diesel Performance Parts

:scare2: Bet you didn't see that coming!

I love it when people say they want a smooth riding lift. It's like asking for a tattoo that doesn't hurt! :bat:

haha good point but they ride BETTER than leafs is what i ment. yea that is kinda pricey but looks good as hell. any one know how hard it is to put on? says everything is bolt on. can sumone explain the process pleeease

Don't kid yourself about the ride quality, it takes the same spring rate to hold up that truck whether it is coil or leaf. Drive a lifted '05 or newer and see for yourself. For that matter, if you're willing to drop all that cash for the coil conversion, take that money and trade your 2001 for an '05 or newer with a lift.

If it's ride quality you're after, buy some 3" hangers from Pro-Comp or Top Gun Customz with new replacement leafs up front and a matching block out back. This maintains the orginal ride. Make sure you stay away from nitrogen charged shocks, they work great off road, but are stiff on road. I personally like the stiff ride of my truck MUCH better than the spongy ride it had when I bought it.

just the fact that not many 7.3s have coils is another reason why i wanted to do it. just to be out of the main stream u kno. i like being different but not for 8 grand haha.

I about had a heart attack when I saw how much that kit was. LOL, I think I'd ride a covered wagon before I'd pay that much for the conversion.
