Special Wheels Needed For 2500?
 

Hey guys, will try posting here too...... I'm looking to upgrade my wheels, will be staying with 16" wheels and will keep my BFG tires. Question I've got is do I need special heavy duty wheels to go on the Dodge 2500 Cummins that I've got, or will any 'ole Aluminum wheel do?

any 8x6.5 lug patterned wheel will work. the tires are the ones that need to be special. load rangr "E" is preferable but if you dont tow or have heavy weight in your bed alot than a load range "D" will work

my opinion has always been that if you are hauling good sized loads or towing reasonably heavy loads then you should really consider getting forged aluminum wheels instead of just picking a cast wheel out of a catalog. the forged wheels have a superior weight rating and will hold up to a truck that's being worked. as i said, this is my opinion.

What they said. BFG has several load range D that are rated higher than a lot of other companies load range E.

Gotta go by the load range designator though and not the pounds rating. The poundage rating is for the tread rating. How many pounds is the tire rated for sitting still. The load range designator is sidewall tolerances, what will the sidewalls stand up to in turns and corners with this weight. So the one that counts is the D and E.

We all know that these ratings are set with safety margins built in and that's why we can get away with running D tires on our trucks even though strictly speaking the empty weight of our trucks is at the very top end of what they are good for. If you do any hauling or Pulling with your truck you really need an E rated tire for safety sake.

Thanks guys!!! Appreciate all the feedback. I'll look for soem good forged wheels to make sure those will hold up. I don't tow much.... (very occasional light trailer).... and don't usually haul too much heavy stuff, so I went for the "D" range BFG's with the understanding if I do start to haul heavy stuff or pull, I'll have to upgrade.
