Spare tire question
 

I just lifted my truck and now I have 35" tires under it, but my stock spare tire is about 30". Clearly this is no good for any use. I think I can cram a 33-34" tire in that spot, but I was wondering what everyone else is doing. I'm trying to decided whether or not I can limp home with a 33-34" tire on the front in case I ever need it. In the meantime, I've dropped my spare because its useless. My truck looks a little naked without a spare under it.

I don't think that would be such a good idea to run a different size tire on the front. On the back its a definate no-no but the front doesn't seem like a good idea either.

Yes, a 33-34 will be fine on front for temporary use to get you home but do not run it on the rear. Dont run a tire that is more than 2% in diameter difference on the rear because you'll cause damage to the spiders and the limited slip.

you will be fine to use a smaller spare on the front to get you somewhere safe or get it fixed. the truck will pull hard to that side because of the size difference so driving highway sppeds is not an option...to help with the pull you can let some air pressure out of the taller tire and run max pressure in the spare...but like everyone else said do not do it in the rear.....

It's okay in the rear as long as you don't have limited slip, right?

I still have my factory spare mounted. I figure if I ever get a flat tire my jack is not going to get the truck high enough anyway, so I'll have to call a service anyway, might as well have them fix it on the side of the road.

I am not 100% sure but I think you may be able to get a 35 in the stock spare location. I have a set of 35's if you want to see if it will fit. I do not have any wheels but the tires are the ones that I used to have on my 05. The only reason I think it will fit is I sat one under my truck before I put the duals on and it looked like a tight fit but a fit. With the duals it was a definite no go.

i have a 35 under ther. but my exaust doesnt run back ther anymore...

also with a heavier tire. throw a ratchet strap thru it so it doesnt break the
hanger. and if it does its got a safty on it!

No, its actually worse. You put the ring and pinion gears in a tremendous bind because one is trying to turn faster than the other. Limited slip lets one wheel turn while the other "freewheels" under these conditions. If you have a locker the back end of your truck is going to try and act like an articulating tractor and start tracking sideways. Even having the air pressure too low in one tire puts a strain on the ring and pinion. There are plenty of tire size calculators on the internet that you can use to find a 16" tire that is close to what your aftermarket tires are so that you can run a spare that will be safe to use.

i've stuffed an uninflated tire of the right diameter up under the truck to get it to fit and just inflated it when i needed it. if you don't have onboard air those little cigarette lighter compressors can fill a 35 in about 5 minutes.

A inflated 35 will fit unless you have a larger exhaust then it gets iffy .
