Parnelli Jones Dirt Grip Tires?
Hey
Anyone have any experience with the Parnelli Jones Dirt Grip tires? They seem like a very good tire and sound like they get great reviews. Just wondering if any CTD owners out there have run them and whatcha think of them, especially in dirt/mud/snow/rain http://www.4x4land.com/graphics/tires/pj_dirtgrip.jpg Thanks |
ive heard quite a few guys who arnt huge fans of them but that is for a rig that is off the road more than on it.
|
my friend had them on his 250 in the 38" form and they wore fast
|
my brother had em in a 38 and they rode great pretty quiet to compared to other 38s..i do know this they are very heavy..

yeah, im talking to some GM owners on another site and they all say they're a pain to balance and are out of round and dont last for crap tread wear wise. Anyone here notice any issues of that nature or are they just hassling me about not putting em on a chevy/GMC

You need to know what you're comparing them too. As far as 38" tires go, they are in the top few on road and do very well offroad. You can expect more life from them than from any swamper. They also carry a load better than most other 38s. (Most tires that big are only load range C) 37s and down, gives you better options for offroad tires that'll carry around a cummins. As for the GM guys not liking them...it depends on wht year truck they're running. All the newer ones are hub centric, not lug centric like older trucks. So if they're running aftermarket wheels, that may be more of their problem than out of balance tires.

just an update
still leaning towards these in a 37x12.50 E range tire. Plan to have lift bought sooner than later.

Always keep in mind, the more aggressive the tread pattern the quicker they will wear down, that's the trade off no matter what tire your lookin at.
Also keep in mind that the bigger diameter you go the more HP and torque your gonna lose. It raises your gear ratio more to the high end. |
yes i know, however im not completely worried about that i will be bombing my truck big time in the coming months
|
I had a set, Imposssible to balance, rode like crap!wore out fast. They look cool tho.....
|
im not gonna try and balance them, im gonna run balancing beads in them
I also heard that the wear is comparable to any other aggressive off road tire. Also, no offense to you but it seems like all the chevy guys have issues with the tires whereas the dodge guys seem to do ok with them. Just something ive found through being a member of various discussion forums |
parnelli jones tires
I have never seen anything like it, i work at a tire retailer and have installed a few sets of DIRT GRIP tires. my customers ask specifically for me whether it is a BMW luxury or a F-350 with propane and37-inch heavies...because i can balance very well.
anyway customer comes in with a f-350 SRW lifted with propane, stacks...the works with 37-inch parnelli jone tires. On one hand I am like...damn 2 hours of spinning tires to find the sweet spot, taking the hood off the Hunter balancer so the tire can fit...and my aching back! This guy shows me a vid of the truck at the dunes on a ridiculous incline!!! On Jones' not paddles..and he got up quick!!! same camera... same truck ...same tires at a drag strip doin 1/4 mile in under 13 secs!!! What the f#%K? Oh and the kicker...70,000 miles out of the set!!! So now I don't feel so bad because I won't be seeing him for awhile, he tips good and these tires called for 3oz max!! I will be putting 31's on my Landrover. ***I am at a hi-volume shop and would be more than happy to let you know what I see asfar as tires are concerned***Nitto Grapplers do well also. p.s. balance beads are ok, but make sure your installer doesn't use bead lube and get the air used for inflation as dry as possible or the beads will bunch/ stick together. |
