i was thinking about doing that since i want some 17's but dont wanna spend $1000 on new wheels.

It can be easily photoshopped...

I have 3rd. gen 17's on my 78 chevy K20. Bolted right on and used the dodge lugs and center caps. They have 285 toyo's on em and the truck has no lift and they fit perfect.

Have you tried these wheels yet? I want to do the same thing but am worried about clearance with frt suspension and rear drum brakes since the wheels are larger by 1.5"

The wheels pictured are the same ones on my 78 Chev. No clearance issues fit perfect.

The larger wheel size will actually clear brakes and what not better since they are larger than what these trucks came with. Only thing that would get you into trouble would be the offset of the new wheel. (It got me into trouble on my '73 Int'l. The inside of the wheel hit the tie rod end . . . . Since these guys have tried them and they worked, hopefully you will be fine too!)
