Cut Down Rims

Ok , this is a strange post, don't really know how to put it. Me and and my partner in crime are gettin ready to build an automated machine to cut and weld rims for either making them wider or narrower. Were buildin this for a guy that runs pullin tractors and needs a quicker way to do his wheels. I'm just wondering if there is any interest in the truck world here for this service. If there is were pondering the idea of building two of em so we'll have one for us to keep. The whole things automated, all we do is set the heat and turn rate for the wheel and change from the cutting head to the welder. Every cut and weld comes out mechanically perfect. We used to custom build stainless steel pressure tanks and used these things to help speed up that process, they're pretty slick once you get em set up.

I think theres a slight intrest. It all depends on cost. I wish my stock wheels were wider

I have no use for it as far as wheels are concerned but I have a ton of oilfield applications that I can see a market for....Id love to see some pics of it!

Theres a HUGE market if you can trim down the rear Drum of pre disk brake dodges to fit post drum brake dodge rims

i'd love some 16X14's for the rear of my dually..... i'll be a gineau pig if you want.....

Uncle Bubba 07-25-2007 12:28 AM

Since there does seem to be a need I'll post back up when we get the deal finalized and see where it goes.

Longhorn, I guarantee if you can dream of it this guy can build it. By proffesion he custom builds the big fertilizer spreaders you see bouncin down the roads. But he's been a custom fabricator for over 40 years. Taught me everything I know about buildin trailers and I haven't even scratched the surface of what he has to teach me. He's gettin to old to do this stuff on his own so I'm his grunt labor that learnin as we go.

Thats cool, I just worked with pipeline consultant that has some drawings of a new tool for pipeline welding...if hes willing I will send them to you and see what your bud thinks....it could be a gold-mine if it works!! I'll be in touch!

If your serious Longhorn, send em my way. Were both in a slow season right now and could use the project.

Do they make rubber for somethin like this. A super single for a dually pickup.

Uncle Bubba 07-25-2007 07:35 PM

Went down to talk to him tonight about all this, might be a little while cause they put his mom in the hospital today and don't look lke she's gonna make it to long, but that won't keep him down long.

He's buildin the damndest contraption I ever seen. It's a planter for strawberries and asparrugus for a local orchard. You lay down on your belly with one person on each side of this thing about 6 inches off the ground. It's self propelled by a hydrostat mower engine with hand controls, is complete with blades up front that open the trench and blades in back to close it and feeds the plants down to you. The plant feeder is set to run off the motor speed so the faster you are driving the faster it feeds plants to you. With the exception of the motor and drive gears, this whole thing is built from scratch including the steel wheels that double as soil compactors as you go.

true that....

Just wish they made something in the 33-34 X 14.0 on a 17" wheel. Sure would be nice.

I think them 29.5/12 17's might be a little small on my 06!
