Nitto Terra Grapler

Whos ran these tires before and did you like them and how did they wear?

Luke

Dr. Evil 02-17-2009 04:23 PM

I havent had them....but have not heard much good about them. They wear fast and are too soft especially under the 1200+ pound Cummins.

busta 02-17-2009 04:58 PM

I had the 31/75/16`s on mine
had about half tread left on them
they are soft and feel really spongy when driving with them
if you look at my wreck pictures you will see only one had air left afterwards
I did do some brake stands with them on :w2:
once blacked out the shop for 10 minutes with em lol

biged681985 02-17-2009 06:40 PM

from all ive heard, they are great tires on most vehicles, but on a dodge diesel they wear out way to fast

Diesel Dawgs Performance 02-17-2009 06:47 PM

Well I was thinking about getting some of the Nittos or Treadwrights :argh:

Oilfield_Mafia 02-17-2009 07:13 PM

Luke, All I have run since I got this truck are the Nitto Terra Grapplers.. The rear tires last me about 10,000 miles.. I buy 315/55/20 10 ply. ANd I do alot of burnouts, and pull a camper or gooseneck alot! The fronts get about 30-35,000 out of them.. I love my Terra Grapplers..

jstange2 02-17-2009 08:16 PM

A friend of mine had them on before his BFG all terrains and he said he would never get them again. I think he said like 20,000 to 25,000 miles and he isn't into burning tires off.:U:

Umm.. I saw one somewhere.. Fully dressed LBZ was about 890 lbs.. I cant see 130 lbs more weight creating that much more wear on the tires though.. a fully dressed 24v weighs like 1000 lbs iirc.. Might have been 1050lbs. I saw one with turbo and all on a pallet recently :w2:

biged681985 02-17-2009 09:48 PM

on a 1200 lb engine stand mounted side ways it sagged the engine stand bad enough i didnt want to work on it with it bolted to it.

BigManBrad 02-17-2009 09:56 PM

I got them on my truck they seem to be ok i have 1000 miles on them.. i have the 295/70/17's.. Bad on ice though..Getting them sipped next week hopefully..

ChinookFE 02-17-2009 09:57 PM

Just got a set on my truck last week...I had never heard anything bad about them....Now you guys have me worried. I did go with load Range "E" because the "D" rated BFG AT's I had wore like crap.

12valvetater 02-17-2009 10:19 PM

they dont work good offroad wont clean out ask me how i know

SUCK-SQUEEZE-BANG-BLOW 02-17-2009 11:58 PM

they're not that bad, but the rears wear much faster than the fronts. mainly because I am lazy and never rotated them, and because I needed a reason to buy 20's and new tires.
I probably wouldn't buy them again, but the price WAS right............

trashygasman 02-18-2009 10:10 AM

I have heard you have to keep them rotated. About half the people you hear love them, and the other half hate them. I'm kind of torn on whether I'm going to get them next time or not.

K50 02-18-2009 11:49 AM

Toyo Open Country FTW. I heard they wear much nicer.

yj junker 02-18-2009 09:21 PM

I,m running a set in the summer and i like the ride couldn't tell you how long they are gonna last because i don't put many miles on the price was right on them :U:

Diesel Dawgs Performance 02-20-2009 07:16 PM

Well I ordered the Nitto's today..... Will be here Monday. Going to take truck to have a alignment done tuesday and tires will be on Wednesday. Then its time to put my clutch in that I finally got lol

roddyconner 02-20-2009 08:17 PM

I've got them on my '06 ford. had 'em for about 15,000 miles of relatively heavy towing with no burn outs and I rotated them every 5000 miles. I don't think they will make the inspection next month. They don't do great in the mud. They look good and ride well, but I'm disappointed in how long they have lasted

SMOKENBLACK 02-20-2009 08:54 PM

Nittos look GREAT, ride OK...but that is it! Horrid off road, suck in the sand and mud, too loud for such crappy off road traction, sluggish and sloppy at high speeds and dont last very well at all! Made the mistake once, wont make it again. BFG or TOYO are much better options...sure they cost a little more up front, but both will last much longer and perfom much, much better off road. Everyone I know that has owned a set will not make the same mistake twice. You can expect around 50K out of the Toyos and BFGs.

cameroneod 02-20-2009 09:15 PM

I've had them on for the last 15k. No complaints.

Diesel Dawgs Performance 02-21-2009 03:50 PM

I'll see how they do on the Cummins :U:

DB Admin 02-22-2009 05:46 AM

KC 10,000 miles come on are you serious , do you do marathon burnouts everyday?

i really like the looks of the terra graplers but i have heard they do not wear good , not quite only good for 10k but you know its KC were talking about ,

i rotate my tires every other oil change , these FCII's refuse to wear out

cbrew2001 03-08-2009 11:38 AM

I've had my Nitto Terra Grapplers on for a little over 2 years and about 30,000 miles with no complaints. They are softer then most so if your offroad very little or spend most of your time in the city then they probably won't last as long as a harder tread. I running 315 on my dually and still have atleast 50% tread left and don't find them noisy at all, but I live in the country and not alot of long interstate driving. My next set will be Terra Grapples also. JMO

DB Admin 03-08-2009 12:26 PM

Really Wow , hey KC what are you doing wrong?

R.Cassidy 03-08-2009 01:30 PM

I like them. My dad has them on his truck and they seem to be very good on and off road. I would like some on my truck.

Well, pulling a 20,000# 5th wheel at sustained speeds of well over 85 mph.. sometimes triple digits.. lol umm.. I have a very heavy right foot.. umm.. I do burnouts for beer.. Im just hard on the rear tires.. The front ones always last a long time.. :lol88:

A good friend of mine had them on his 02 Dodge Cummins 4X4 and only managed 32K and that's with rotating every 5-7k miles. I've tried Firestones, Dunlops, Bridgestones, and BFG's on all three of my 3/4 ton diesel trucks. Only and I mean only ones that last out of that group are the BFG's. The last set on my current Dodge were 285 70 17's BFG AT KO's (if I remember the size right) and I got 62K out of them with rotating damn near every 5K miles. No BS. My current shoes are 305 AT KO's and I'm coming up on 30K on those with minimal wear. I won't purchase anything but BFG's. I don't do burnouts and I tend to corner as flat as possible, but hey, I'm a cheap prick and try to get the most for my money!:rolleyes2:

Bad Idea Baja 03-09-2009 11:01 PM

I've had them on my LLY Duramax, a 99 F-250, 04 F-250, 08 F-250 & a 08 F-150.
They wore out pretty quick on the Dirtymax. I think I got about 45k out of them. They seem to do really good on the Fords. I have 35k on my F-250 right now & 25k on the F-150. The F-150's wear really quick, but I think that is due to them being on a company truck & ultimately the repairs don't come out of my pocket so they really don't get the care they deserve.
I prefer the Toyo Open Country A/T's. Even though they are made in the same plant as the Nittos, the Toyos are much quieter & seemed to last a lot longer. Same money.
I'm going to try Dune Grapplers next.

dieseldick 03-10-2009 08:03 AM

i have a set of the terra all terrains on my truck. i have the 315's. they do wear fast especially on the rear and not from burnouts. i think the torque just peels them away. if you do get them rotate them religiously. i am happy with them overall compared to the bfg's i had. i could not keep those suckers balanced. i think next im gonna get a smaller tire and take the lift off since im old(er) and poor(er).

You already have 35k on your F250? Damn boy! Where have you been going?

cbrew2001 03-10-2009 11:37 PM

On mine you have to realize I have the weight of my Duramax spread out over (6) 35's. On the rear I have 4 foot of tires touching the ground, the load spead out tends to wear the tires slower.
