Why We ALL need U-joint Shields and Drive Shaft Loops

Horrible story. But this is why some organizations are VERY strict on drive line safety.

My prayers are with the family.

EDIT: A guy on Pitrate4x4 was at the show and he said it looked like the slip yoke came apart and went into the stands.

Damn.....A very tragic story, which might have been prevented.
My prayers are with the family.

Hopefully now all organizations will require stricter drive line safety requirements on trucks

I was at the show this afternoon, they were playing it VERY safe, several remote shutdowns.

My heart goes out to the family.

Couple thoughts on my side...

I'm pretty sure that the truck had all the saftey items in place. And I'm pretty sure Monster jam teched and did all they could do. Stuff happens. You can take all the precautions in the world but you cant take out the "dumb luck" factor. there is no 100% way to protect everyone... Unless you never start the truck.

I just wanted to put this up here as a this can and has and will happen. Dont tempt it by skimping on saftey items.... Its not worth it. trust me even though it sucks you will feel ALOT better missing a pull or not being allowed to pull because of missing or improper saftey items the youwill if you do pull and kill someone.

VERY SAD. That orginization has been around for what...20 years? If something like that happened in the diesel community we would have to shut down.
For this reason, please keep in mind that the officials have a job to do when they tech your truck. I know alot of tracks that as long as your batteries are tied down you are "safe" to run. The failure was more than likely poor welds. Even with perfect welds the thing would of come apart however deflected the debris down in the dirt. One thing they stressed at this years SFI cert. (safety inspector) was to check the welds. If you see several poor welds...chances are there are ALOT more. NO GO!

Definitely a sad story. I will say that I know that everytime I entire a motorsport event that I am taking a risk of being injured. I have seen lots of stuff go flying into the crowd at different events. It happens. When wheels and motors are involved, you never know what could go wrong and where things might fly.
