Bent Aluminum wheel
How does one go about bending it back? It's not bent real bad, will try for a pic of it soon.
Can you put a lil heat to it and bend it back? Anyone know of someone that can do it around Missouri? Like Jeff City or STL area? |
I dont think you want to put heat to aluminum unless you really know what your doing, what did you do curb it??
|
I doubt you will ever get the bead to seal good again. You'll probably end up with a slow leak. Unless there is a way to do this that I don't know about:pca1:

Log in to ebay as Whitmore and sell it
|
Sell it as :":has a slight ding:": :lol88:
It was on that 2000 that I'm parting out. |

you might just try a hammer, but im not sure you'll be able to get a tire to bead right on it
|
That's what we were thinkin.
Maybe get it as close as possible and tube it? |
maybe, how did the back of the rim get bent and not the front side:humm:
|
I'm guessing a rock when it went into the ditch....
|
steel rims we use a small sledge hammer on and can usually get it back real close to stock but Aluminum is so soft just becareful
we have got some back to were they would hold air with a hammer and vice grips but they weren`t bent that bad lol |
Put a tube in it....... :tttt:
But seriously I think shes alil too far gone. |
Yea to far gone for a hammer for sure. I tried a little bit with no results. Just gonna run it to a shop that says they can fix it and see what they'd charge.

not bent real bad????????
|
looks like scrap:pca1:
|
X2 its done for. I'd never run an alu wheel that has been "fixed" after being bent.
|
you can buff that out

I've seen wheels worse than that straightened by a guy in CA that does nothing but straighten aluminum wheels. I've also seen some that cracked while straightening. Local guys trying to do it with a hammer. I've welded up a couple for other people, but wouldn't want to do that with MY wheels.
Google "Wheel Straightening" and you'll probably find someone not too far away.:U: |
Yea I found a tire and wheel place in STL that say they can fix it for me... Now I just gotta get it up there.
|
Steady pressure or a wooden or other soft faced mallet and go slow. If you get the area over 400-450* and quench it you'll anneal the aluminum and it will be super easy to work, but it won't reharden till you work it enough to work harden it or get it re-heat treated, I wouldn't even dare try that on my own wheel. fixing aluminum like that is a touchy thing, you either have it or you don't, if you can't do miracles with a hammer I'd suggest taking it to someone that can, that can be fixed...
