2008 Dodge Ram 2500 2" leveling kit
 

I just installed a 2" coil spacer on my 08 Ram 2500. I used the stock shocks in the stock shock mounting locations. With the leveling kit, can the stock shocks be used or do i have to install longer ones. Any sugestions or solutions?

I would recommend a set of bilstein's for it.

got an 07 2500 just put on a 2" top gun customz leveling kit,used factory shocks now at highway speeds if you hit a bump the front end shakes really bad and you have to stop the truck...track bar is good tie rods are good ball joints are good steering stabilizer is good... got truck alligned that didnt help... talked to top gun they said add positive caster... can any one tell me what to do??

i would reccomend longer shocks, but thats just me. will help out the ride quality

its recomended but not needed. It would be a nicer ride though

I'm new to the site and am browsing around. I have an 08 Ram 2500 6.7L I6. It's pretty bone stock, engine/exhaust wise. I will work on that down the road. I do have 315/70/17 tires that fit nice and pretty. What I'm getting at is that I installed a Tuff Country 2" leveling kit, which went on top of the coil springs. I was able to retain the stock shocks and the only "change" was the mounting hardware holding the shock tower down, which came with the kit. I have no issues with handling or shaking or braking....nothing. Not too sure what to tell you guys other than what I put on was Tuff Country.

Take your truck back to the alignment shop, and have them add a couple of degrees positive caster. In a nutshell, what this will do is point your pinion down a tiny bit as viewed looking from the front of the truck toward the transfer case. Use about 2 degrees as a starting point, drive it, and have them adjust as necessary.
The five link front suspensions on our trucks can be very sensitive to changes, and the perfect adjustment can be a matter of trial and error. Although it's not absolutely necessary, I strongly recommend a new set of front shocks that are the correct length for your kit. When the suspension unloads as it will when you drive it, this can top the shocks out at their upper limits, and damage the shock over time, and as was also mentioned make ride quality and handling suffer. Once the factory geometry is altered, such as you did adding the spacers, it becomes a matter of fine tuning a compromise between pinion angle and caster angle, and factory specs don't apply as they would to a stock truck. The higher you go, the more drastic the effect.

Most times you experience the "Death Wobble", your Front Stabilizer is not durable enough to counter this effect especially if it's a factory unit.
Monroe products-Rancho etc. do not provide enough stabilization ability(FACT) even on a non lifted Truck. They wear within 13,000 mi if your lucky.
I had the same problem with my 05, 2500 Ram with 315/70/17 tires that were installed at 100mi. I got 40.000mi before the "Death Wobble" began. After new tires the problem was minimum but still present so i Installed Rancho 5000 series shocks and a Rancho Stabilizer in place of the Factory unit and the problem went away......... But......
At 51,000mi my Death Wobble returned like it did with the worn out factory unit and the shocks had already worn out as well.
I resolved this problem with a Heavy Duty Gabriel made Stabilizer (Rough Country) after extensive research, and Bilstein Shocks MONOMAX. (89,000mi and still smooth)
Dual Stabilizers are not necessary and neither are Monroe products recommended. Not trying to promote Gabriel but after purchase, it was almost twice as thick in Diameter compared to the Rancho and provided the fix to the problem.
FIX::::::
Replace the factory Stabilizer (as the mechanic should have advised if you still have the Factory unit) with a HD Rough country and install Bilstein 5100 series Mono tube shocks on Front, and Standard monos on rear F4-BE5-C604-H0 then say Good by to your problem and enjoy the ride !

kinda beatin a dead horse here but i just bought a leveling kit for my 2004 2wd. i want to know what to expect when getting into this. am i going to have hell with stock shocks its a 1 1/2" leveling kit i didnt want a 2" because it told me i needed new shocks and didnt want to mess with it. that and i would rather still be a little low in the front end then be to tall up front. what all tools will i need and what should i expect. or i should say how pissed off am i gona get. lol

You can easily get away with the stock length shocks, but I would personally just spend the coin and get some bilsteins :tu:
