Removing Steering Stabilizer
My steering stabilizer is dented and I think it has something to do with the shake that my truck has developed....I have a new one and yesterday I went to pull the old one off and the stud end would not budge from the tie rod. I tried beating it with a hammer, no luck, so I put a pitman arm puller on there and started cranking down on it, the puller pushed a big divot into the top of the stud almost 1/16" deep, still nothing, and now the head of the studed end is mushroomed out to where I can't put the nut back on...Any idea on getting this thing off?

If your talkin about the shock on the front axle you can go without it as long as your not runnin the big oversized tires. It just absorbs some of the jerkin of the steering wheel over the bumps.
I ran without it for a while why I fabricated a new one to fit and din't have any issues. They do make aftermarket ones that don't use the stock mounts though. |
Yeah...I have a new one, but I can't get the old one off...

Body grinder get's anything lose. Has never failed me yet.

My truck has not had a stabilizer since it was lifted, No problems. I feel that steering stabilizers are a "Band-aid" fix .JMO.

Off road or nasty road you will feel the difference but if your drivin around town or just down the highways it's just extra weight.

Well...Something beyond just the stabilizer is messed up in the front end....The thing started shaking on me so bad on the way home from work that it ripped the steering wheel out of my hands...Did it to me 11 times in 20 miles...It did it before the leveling kit and it seemed to go away all together after I put the leveling kit on, but now it is back with a vengence. I'm scared to drive it.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- I was just out there messing with it some more, I jacked the truck up to tug on some stuff and see if I could find anything loose. The only thing I found was that if I grabbed the pitman arm and pulled on it, the output shaft from the steering gear would move a slight bit, maybe 1/32"-1/16" in the forward-aft direction, I've never paid attention enough to know if that is normal or not, but I imagine it isn't, could this be the source of the Death Wobble? |
