opinions on 6" lift
 

Im debating between a 4.5" and a 6" lift, I would really like to get something bigger than 35's on there and want something wide at least 12.5, are there any pros / cons to one or the other? I use the truck for towing my work trailer, 16' enclosed, maybe 8-9k loaded, and plowing in the winter.

and one more question how hard is the install on one vs the other? how long would it take someone with some mechanical knowledge, I have done full suspension on my Audi before and that wasn't too bad so I'm hoping i can handle this.

well i have a 6" lift on my truck and I have 37s on it and they rub so I dont really know how that 4.5'' lift is gonna wrk out for you

Well I went with the 4.5"... Would. 35's fit ok?

35's should fit fine.. I have like 4 inch lift. With 33's and no rub. And with the 4.5 you can still retain some towability haha

I have a 4 inch lift with 35s and theres lots of room. Got my 37inch mud grapplers today just waittin on my 6inch lift!

some thoughts on phat tires, lifts, and a work truck /plow set-up.
 

I never understood a jacked up truck with phat tires used as a winter or work truck. Having come up in the snow belt..(east of Buffalo), I never had 4 wheel drive, and never needed it. A 3/4 ton chevy with narrow SNOW tires and 6 bags of cement in the bed would see me through snow you pushed with the front bumper. A good meyers plow set up right, and you are good to go. Phat tires are good in the dunes, and lift kits give you a certain look for sure, but the axle/differential is still the same height off the ground give or take an inch or two, and you need a ladder to mount up or dismount. Plus the added headache of driveline wear and hitch height, etc. So I guess its a matter of style or image...whatever. for utility though, your money may be better spent on extra fuel capacity (I carry 130gallons..and fill up where cheapest), and go from there. Having said all that, I do have 19.5 inch 12 ply tires on alcoa rims, having a big rig appearance bu a stock stance...only an inch or so higher over the stock weenie tires. Its a 2001 dodge quadcab dually, 5.9 24v 6 spd with gear vender o/d. Just my 2 cents, meant as food for thought not criticism.:tu:
