Cooper S/T MAXX

Hey guys by spring or summer (hopefully summer) Im gonna replace my tires which are currently Kelly Safari TSR's. I liked my tires great on pavement and off road and snow. But Im dissapointed in its tread life I have 35K on them and they look like they are ready to be replaced (I drive alot on and off road). One has a boot in it because I grabbed a bolt and threw it and caught it again. I also have a friends old pair he was nice enough to burn off all the tread but at least I got two brand new tires outta the set (Peep boys special). But i was looking at these Cooper tires and I like them and I can kinda swallow the price on them, but have any of you guys ran them and can you give me your oppinion and how many miles they lasted you. or give me some suggestions on tires (Ive also ran DURATRACS and liked them but I want to get as close to 50K outta tires as possible.)

They are D rated tires I would rather have the E rated just preffernce I dunno if its makes any real difference. I dont just play on pavement, my ranch is on Rock Creek and just as the name implies we have alotta rocks. So I rather have the 10 ply along that the copper have aramtec with 3 ply sides.. If you think different please advise me, I dunno crap bout tires...

tiremann9669 01-07-2013 10:15 AM

I had a buddy where I used to work that ran the Coopers on 2 trucks and loved them, I have no idea though what he got outa them for milage. I'm goin to the city on Thursday and was planning on tryin to catch up with him, if I do I'll find out for ya.I run D rated and unless you haul heavy you would be fine with D's even though some will swear you gotta run E's on these trucks. :c:

colinheitshusen 01-11-2013 09:40 AM

Coopers are by far the best tire ive heard of and ran, i have about 8k on my set of Cooper AT/3's and they arent even showing wear. plus i only paid $826 installed onsale with lifetime balance and rotation so you couldnt beat it. But either way there a good priced tire for what you get. know plent of guys with the STT and ST Maxx that have gotten around 50k out of them or more

CR9712v 01-11-2013 12:34 PM

cooper discoverer s/t maxx is the way to go... i run them on my truck and they are awesome. pull, haul, mud, jump, burnout(lol), hell ive eve jumped my truck with these bad boys. No problems. the sidewall on these things is insane. the ups guy who dropped them off said what the hell you putting these on? haha [ """"IMO"""" ] and they last.

Golddigger 01-11-2013 01:17 PM

I hated mine. Maybe from the looks of the sig's of the above post it was due to mine being 35x12.50x17's. They shook the piss out of my truck. I had them rebalanced, rotated multiple times. Replaced my tie rods and ball joints hoping for relief. Finally got a new set of BFG KM2's and everything is swell. For ranching I would look at the Toyo M-55 or the Goodyear Work horseExtra grip. They last forever in the rocks.:pca1:

H.R.D 01-11-2013 01:26 PM

IMO the longest lasting MTs are Toyo MTs they are pricey but they last.

Powerstroke Coopers

I have some Coopers on my Ford Powerstroke and man they rock. They get pricey when you try and pick em up from the local tire dealer. I'd try online, I work with TireTeam.com and they have some good pricing if you go that route.

CR9712v 01-11-2013 05:01 PM

i picked up 4 tires for 660$.... and yeah size matters.. :c:

CR9712v 01-11-2013 07:14 PM

yeah for my old 2wd ford... lasted untill i sold it..

RanchhandTCR 01-11-2013 07:45 PM

Well I dont want passenger style tires, and why I realy like the S/T maxxs is the tread depth and the 3 ply side wall which is what Im realy after and people seem to realy like them in packed snow and ice which is one of the reasons I want them, The terragrapplers dont have the tread depth I want in hopes to make it to 40K plus no one runs them out here because they bust all the time. Its Kellys and Coopers are the most popular out here. Im a pain in the ass, Im too picky and I know it But I just wanted to see what kinda life people have gotten outta them because they seem they will be more than cabable to do the job. Thanks for all the input guys... Keep it commin.

CR9712v 01-12-2013 11:58 AM

i have them on my dodge now... any trucks gonna spin in the snow though... but s/t maxxs work better then a/ts ive used or terragrapplers. its all opinion though so idk.

there no such thing as 100% traction in snow. But Tereagrapplers bust out here, and ill be damned to have anything with the word geo on it, i looked at the toyo m-55 and like them justvwished they had a bead protector..

CR9712v 01-13-2013 12:51 PM

yeah, this is just one of them things where you can get a thousand answers from a thousand people...

RanchhandTCR 01-13-2013 02:44 PM

Yep I agree since you have them how you likeing them?

1999stroker 01-13-2013 04:03 PM

they are great. took it to a construction site and "tested" them out. didnt get stuck
2wd at all. 4wd was just like walking a puppy. to and from isent bad at all either .then some deep ass mud, and trails back route 43. all in all i cant complain. :c: never any good snow in maryland anymore though.. so im waiting to grip those reigns if you know what i mean. id recomend them so someone who "actively" drives.

flores06 01-13-2013 08:05 PM

we run em on our farm pickups out here in the panhandle or texas over about and dry terrain (were in a drought) but i got into my powerstroke with about 269,000 miles and the coops were nearly new i think they said they had one rotaion on them so roughly 5000 miles and the pickup is at 293,000 miles and theyre ready to be changed. theyre startin to cap and the tread is little to none.. i drive 35 miles a day on the blacktop but anywhere from 1 to 100 miles a day on the dirt, over cornstalk, rock, grass, pretty much anything. (the cornstalk eats em up for sure) they grab like a mother in the mud but any tire needs tread. theyd slick right over right now if i had some mud around. during the season i had an irrigation engine in a field and i could drive down the road with the sprinkler runnin right in the road in 2 wheel with good tread. good tire, not so long lasting.. IMO

Thanks, My friend gave me his old burn out ones(Just have them because I got two new pep boy tires) , but he liked them before he destroyed them.
I drive alot, I have put 33K on my truck in one and three months. I drive alot on dirt roads, farm roads, mud, snow, ice, and on truck trails to go coyote hunting and all the critters that are fun to go hunt. I just want a good strong tire that will handle the crap I drive thru. I also make 3-5 1200 mile round trips to AZ, I think thats is what has done the most damage to these Kellys. Plus the majority of the dealers here will give me a deal and rotate them for free.

CR9712v 01-14-2013 12:10 PM

i drive threw cornfields and swamps religously, back and forth trips to south carolina to hunt with my uncle roger, nothing like swamp bucks :c: but yeah i get stuck driving alot also to cure my trigger finger. i had super swampers which were staight crap.. got talked into buying them.. in my honest opinion as people say nowadays go for what you know, go for what "you" like and feel is best for you.

RanchhandTCR 01-14-2013 08:22 PM

Well im 100% sure im gonna go with the S/T maxxs I was thinking about gettin BF Goodrichs KO but they suck in the mud, snow and everything but sand and pavement IMHO. I like straight up M/Ts but they are not what I need Luckily I dont have to go far to satisfy my trigger itch, got 1200 acres of flat land to shoot on... No luck on a Bull Elk though third year no shot taken, wish I wasnt so nice last year would have gotten a nice one... Thanks for you imput CR! One more question are they noisey at all? I dont care but I dont want them screaming down the Highway? Im around enough guns, and tucks..

tiremann9669 01-14-2013 08:55 PM

I tried to catch up with my buddy but he no longer works there either and he wasn't at his part time shop, so I guess thats gonna take a little more huntin. The only bad about a straight MT is they suck on snow and ice, found that out the hard way by buyin a set for my old plow truck. :c:

Most of the people who get them have enjoyed them. I know it's not the same, but we had a young lady that had some 285/70R17's on her Nissan Titan and loved them. Said she had very little road noise and at 11k miles (last time she was in that I saw her) the tires showed very little wear.

CR9712v 01-15-2013 06:20 PM

i have 5k miles on them and you cant hear them at all.. wear even and nicely. :c:
