BFG 315/70/17 to Pro Comp 35x12.5x17 on stock rim?
Tire sizes confuse the hell out of me. I am currently running BFG A/T 315/70/17 on stock 17" rim with a 2.5" leveling kit. I want to go with Pro Comp Xtreme A/T tires this go around and the size is different as it's a 35x12.5x17. Is that size equivalent to the BFG A/T I am running? Thanks!

35/ 12.5/17 means 35"overall diameter, 12.5" wide and fits a 17" wheel.
315/70/17 means the tire is 315mm (31.5 cm) wide, the side wall is 70% of the width and it fits a 17 inch wheel. 31.5cms is 12.5 inchs so they must be 12.5" wide. (315's are close enough to be called a 35/12.50.) Just make sure the sidewalls (not the outside tread patterns)are same length and can match up with your rim. Thanks for the info - Sizing looks really close to what I run now and I've seen some threads where guys are running them on stock rims. Will call around to some shops today for pricing and see who will mount them.

Talked to my local shop today and he confirmed they will fit. Went with 35x12.5x17 Pro Comp Xtreme A/T. Hope to have em friday and be rid of these BFGs.

They didn't shed mud much at all and slicked up real easy. I only got about 35K miles out of them at most, but that was partly due to a ball joint issue so I really didn't get a fair shake with them. Just felt like I wanted something different and a little more aggressive tread:s:

Squaregrouper and others reading, I have had both of those tires on my F-350. I had the bfg KO's in load range E (two sets). They were very stiff but went 55-60k. I switched to the xtreme AT's in 315/75-16 and 35x12.50-17 load range D (4 sets) and absolutely loved them! I found however, a couple of interesting things. 1st, kinda unfair to compare the super plush cadilac ride of the extreme AT's to the BFG KO's because of the diffent load ranges. I never tried the BFG's in range D. I pull a 40' fifth wheel with both D & E range. Yes, one could argue that D's could be a little soft for that kinda weight but, I NEVER had an issue. I tow that rig 10 times a year about 500 mile round trip. 2nd, after about 10k miles the extreme AT's will start cupping. Change your shocks, Change your socks, Align the truck, change ball joints won't make a difference... They cup because of the size of lugs and the incredibly deep 5/8th inch tread depth. I found that if you rotate them every 2,500 miles you can keep it to a minimum but, they will still cup. After 25k all four will be cupped and start a mild howl. Not bad and much quiter than mud terrains. I got at least 40k out of mine every time and closer to 45k before I thought they were gettin thin. Ok, problem #3... Last set I had 2012, all four threw the tread around 30k within a month of each other. The extremes wear evenly and ride the best at 35-40psi. I know they say 60 but they will wear bald down the center at that pressure and ride rough. It is stamped on the sidewall clearly "60psi cold MAX". This doesn't mean you have to run them at 60psi, it just means don't go over it... (common misconseption)
Hope my opinion of these tires help. I really like both types and think that for street ONLY I would give the edge to BFG but, if you ever get that asphalt princess of road I highly recommend the extreme AT's they grip better in loose dirt and clear alot more mud. I just accepted the cupping as the trade for these awesome looking tires! |
