Tips on how to launch

Ok so I have heard numerous times that it is terrible on your tranny to put it in drive and hold the break down but isn't it te only way to build up boost?????? Or is there something I'm missing lemme know!! Thanks guys!

suncoast makes a product for launching automatics. they call it a tran brake, locks the tranny in drive and rev till you let off the break. i'm sure yo could switch it in other ways. they nick name it the tran break, because they say it launches so hard it will find your week link and break it.

Lol great!!!!!! I don't want nothing to break hahahah:argh:

Trans brake itself is probably 10X harder on your truck because the axles, u-joints, and other driveline components aren't getting preloaded like when you step on the brakes.

Dude_57, yes, holding it for a long time is definately a recipe to kill your trans, but unless you have a huge single turbo, it shouldn't take that long to boost up...

That is me in the black truck, notice you don't hear the motor under load for very long. It doesn't take forever to spool a stock turbo.

Mainly, this is what I do...

Lock it in 4x4, and MAKE SURE it's locked. Back up, go forward, whatever you can do to help your hubs fully engage, because you don't want them ripping themselves apart...

You want to pre-load stuff, so give it fuel while softly touching the brakes so that you roll up a foot or so under load. Then, stop the truck, and give it a lot of throttle and make sure the back tires aren't breaking loose. This makes SURE you're in 4x4. If you're at the track, I'd take this time to do a small launch, just to create a little friction to dry any water and get any dirt off of your tires.

I tend to launch a stockish truck by RPM and not boost. It's easier to be consistent like that, and you can hear the RPM while you watch the light, instead of trying to watch a light and a boost gauge.

Hmmmm that actually helps alot!!! Yeah I just don't wanna fry anything =/ but after I get my gauges in I'm turning her up! And I wanna race! Lol just scared too:argh:

I know what you mean. Don't be scared. You should be fine as long as your trans is up to the task.

Your good, as long as the proper valve body mods are made.
