Take my CHL sunday/need a good holster

Im taking my Chl this sunday with of course my 9mm sig. I cant wait although i hear the classroom stuff is BORING. Once i get my license i will carry everywhere i can besides work. I have been looking at some crossbreed holsters. From what i have read they seem awesome. I just want something relatively comfortable and well made. Price doesnt matter.

Ramprat 11-09-2011 11:22 PM

Comp-Tac : Top-Quality Firearm Accessories CTAC if they make it for your pistol, you can't go wrong with it...crossbreed holsters are good, no question about it, but I'm not a fan of the leather/kydex marriage...they are just not for me...

I've got 2 CTAC's, one for the Sig 239 & one for a Springfield 1911, they are ubber comfortable & superb at concealment...

For holsters and belt's you want a "matched pair" and by this I mean a holster/belt combo that is designed for concealed carry & a belt that is designed to support the weight of a gun...and at least one reload...

As far as belts...if you want a leather one go with Gun Belts by The Belt Man nobody makes a better leather belt...unless ya want to pay 4-5 times as much...

However, take a good hard look at Ares Gear he makes the best gun/jeans belt you will ever own...while I don't have one...yet I'm going to get one...I've got 2 cobra pistol belts, one from a company I just can't recommend & one that's a really good belt..but I forget the name of the company off the top of my head & need to look...

Match the belt to the holster...thus if you want a 1.5 wide belt get a holster with 1.5 wide belt loops...you do not want belt slots in a holster that fit a range of belt widths....you get movement & it does not conceal as well....

what if no one makes a holster for your gun?

tat's what the cops call a clue.....

Either ya got a junk gun that's not work a shit and needs to go to the pawn store....or ya have a old family heirloom that is better off as a range/display gun....

Either way ya need to get a good quality pistol and dump the pistol.....

joebob3093 11-10-2011 12:06 AM

its a wilson combat. i dont think i would call it a "junk gun" or a piece of s***

So either you are not looking hard enough, looking correctly or it's a pistol somebody sent in that's junk and paid em enough money to customize...and then sold to a sucker...:humm::humm::humm:

Are you saying you can not find a holster for a wilson combat pistol & if so....what kind of pistol is it...

joebob3093 11-10-2011 12:18 AM

its a wilson combat ADP. only place i have seen that has a holster for it is from wilson combat.

Seriously, what do you expect when you are talking about a "production" pistol made by a company that specializes in custom handguns...and they don't even make it, but import them from South Africa and the quality is rather dubious....

Not much of a demand for such a pistol, let alone a holster...chances are ya won't find a non custom holster for it outside of Wilson Combat...

joebob3093 11-10-2011 12:41 AM

im looking into having one built for it but wondered if you had any input other then putting people down. it is the only handgun i have found that i really liked how it feels in my hand for its size.

Not putting you down....not trying to hurt your feelings...now go pull up your big girl panties :c:

The ADP is not a production pistol by any major company here in the states & it's a imported pistol from South Africa that has a documented track record of "issues" and failures...

It's clearly not a hand fitted Wilson Combat custom pistol & that's not in dispute...I have a friend who has a custom wilson custom pistol, he sent a Colt 1911 to them...and then had to return it 3 times prior to Wilson ensuring it ran 100% of the time....that's just the way things go...

Pistols are hunks of metal/plastic death...they are designed to kill and protest you the owner...they are not designed to be "comfortable" and fit your hand like your penis fits your hand...natural point of aim is more important than comfort...how the weapon functions, ease of repair, ease/price/availability of spare parts & mags are all more important than comfort. In all reality, how much time do you really spend holding you pistol...

I have a G19 and am trying to purchase another one...I hate how it "feels" in my hand, it's not comfortable, but it functions 100% of the time, it will hit what I aim at..it will do it's part..and I just need to do my part...and parts/mags are easy/cheap to come by...as are armorers who know how to keep it running if I can't.

But hey, shoot it and enjoy it :tu::tu:

There are some decents guns out there with hard-to-find holster fitment...CZ 75 and Blackhawk Serpa for example..but anyways...

IWB--I go with the cheap Uncle Mikey's felt/suede one. It's comfy and works even on my fatness.

OWB--Blackhawk Serpa, or Galco shoulder rig depending on what I'm wearing. For a belt, just read what Rampy said.

depending on what type of holster you want, Galco and DeSantis both make holsters that fit the ADP, just to name a couple....

Rampy is not exactly slim and trim any more....and the CTAC works most nice on his..."love handles"

Aywhoo...Rampy has spent more on holsters than many have on guns...trying to find what works...and what does not work....and is not a fan of the one holster fits many concept...or the uncle mikes...Rampy refuses to put a $600 pistol in a cheap $30 holster...that's just asking for problems...

The CZ75 is a excellent pistol....

Galco is good stuff...I've got a original Jackass holster around here someplace...(Jackass holsters was what Galco was called before they changed the name) & I picked it up new...for a 1911...and found out right away about how hard it was to re ulster a pistol after the holster mouth collapsed...but they make some superb shoulder rigs...

However, the blackhawk serpa is a total piece of shit...more and more police departments are banning them, more and more quality trainers and ranges are banning them...that's all called clues for a reason...they jam in snow, they set you up to pull the bang switch with your booger hooker...they break...they are just plain a bad design....

But hey, we all know how outspoken Rampy is..:ouch::ouch::ouch:

CTAC's are nice, just don't see any need to replace what is working, particularly when more LE that *I personally know* (not saying this is gospel, just clarifying) use the Uncle Mikey than the CTAC for off duty IWBCC, but maybe I live in Barney Fife town. That's okay too though cuz I haven't had to play army in my neighborhood yet. lol

I know :tttt:

lol I've heard some of the Jackass jokes. My rig is older but works. I use the same straps and just change out the holster for my choice in weaponry that day. I actually wear the shoulder rig more than the IWB holster.

Am getting a custom belt rig for Xmas...should be fun.

Bah humbug...Ayoob Stressfire...is it accidental discharge or negligent discharge? Jamming in the snow like walking in the snow or pretending they're a burrowing honey badger in the snow while playing army in the back 40?

But then of course back before retention holsters the scare was the gun falling out of the crappy old leather "bag" and hitting the ground hammer first and launching a ricocheting projectile of death that would take out two dozen 4th graders AND their puppy before it hit the old lady in the leg and the cop in the nuts.....

We will agree to disagree on this one....:c:

RSWORDS 11-10-2011 07:01 AM

I have a CB Supertuck, all the top line holsters are comfortable, I feel the CB is a tad bit more for me though because of all the leather to spread the weight out and help eliminate pressure points.

You wont go wrong with any of them. :U:

Here we go again...the "cops" use it so it's got to be good....:s::s:

Most cops are not gun guys...and they use what's cheap or issued and when it comes to issue most cop departments issue cheap crap cuz it's cheap...and they can stretch the beans further...

Do you drive a Volkswagen Karmann Ghia ...have you upgraded your vehicle...or cuz "it works" you are still driving the same vehicle you did 30 years ago...

Ba humbug all you want, stick your head in the sand all you want...run and hid from the simple fact the blackhawk holster is a piece of junk, cheaply made and has serious design flaws...

It's people like you that are emotionally invested in a hunk of plastic, who refuse to seeand understand, who allow emotion to guide gear purchases...who end up getting hurt and/or get others hurt viz bad advice...

PLMCRZY 11-10-2011 09:20 PM

CTAC doesnt make one for the sig 2022 :( So i guess im going to go with the crossbreed supertuck. Im also going to get there gun belt. Should i consider a mag carrier as well? I guess i cant carry if i tuck in a nice button down? I need a smaller gun??

Also ramp come on i gotta here what you think of my Sig. Your opinions are so honest lol.

What do yall think of this holster?

I have the Bianchi Ranger belt. I wear it everyday, even when I'm not carrying. I love it. I do wish it was a little bit thicker, but the 1.75" width helps distribute my guns weight pretty good.

I don't have my permit yet so I haven't really looked into CC holsters much, but I know I'll probably go with either the Supertuck or maybe a Kholster when I get my permit and start carrying concealed. Right now I use a leather thumb break pancake holster made by Blackhawk for OWB carry, or occasionally my Serpa. The ONLY reason I changed from my Serpa to the leather was for comfort. My Serpa is the paddle version and having that plastic digging into my side for a good part of the day was getting really uncomfortable. I'm not even going to get into the argument about Serpa's being junk or not.

Good luck!

You can tuck in your shirt with the CB, alot of the IWB allow you too.

The CB is well worth the wait. Also spring for the Horsehide over the leather.

That holster looks like it would work. One clip is not gonna spread out the weight as much as the rigs with two. With my B, and I imagine Rampy will say the same about his CTAC, you don't feel the weight of the gun at all pulling your pants down.

Took the test today scored perfect on the range which was easy. Some of those guys were all over the place its like wtf?? Run some rounds before you take the class. Most had those tiny 380 pocket pistols maybe good for 5ft imo. Some brought guns they just bought the day before and it was there FIRST handgun ever. Took the written missed 2. I learned alot about the laws. Basically if a bad guy is using deadly force on you that is the only time you can put him down with your pistol. The rest you can avoid. It wasnt what i thought it was gonna be thats for sure. The instructors told me especially since im young and in shape the lawyers will bring that up in court if i do happen to shoot someone. They will ask why i didnt just stop him without shooting. I think thats a bunch of bs.

Im glad i got the license but im not that gung ho about carrying as i was before the class. I may as well still throw down if a situation arises and forget the gun.

On a better note i ordered a stainless steel guide rod for my 2022 since the stock is plastic......

It's called disparity of force...but it's all about where you live and where you carry...in some states does not matter if you are a grand champion MMA fighter with 4 black belts, if a 89 year old lady tried to kill you you can shoot her no questions asked...

Other states you go to jail...and the key get's lost...

However, if you have a gun..and get into a fist fight...you will go to jail for having that gun & fighting...

It's a serious thing...to edjucate yourself on local/state laws & see what/where/how you stand...and it's no joke when people say they carry concealed and go out of the way to be nice and polite...knowing they could kill the turd that is pissing on them...

Learn what deadly force is/how it applies and then you know more where you stand...

ANd it's also a great idea to find a superb nasty asshole of a lawyer..talk to him/her and have them on retainer so if ya shoot somebody...you do not want a nice lawyer...but a serious asshole...one who wins his cases no matter how messed up they are...

In defense of the Serpa, that was the primary holster we used the last time I was in Iraq. I had mine for a year, banged up all to hell and back, never had an issue with it. No one I knew at the time using one (at least 30) ever had any issues with them for an entire year. I still have my holster, and still haven't ever had an issue with it.
Yes, I agree there could be issues with the locking mechanism, but if they were that severe, I'm pretty sure I would have had it happen to me at one point or another.
