It's just a full sizes pistol while the 229 is a compact...

At one point I'd always recommend a XD over a glock, but the more I learned, the more I saw the less I liked the XD, the XD has more moving parts, has a higher failure rate than the glock 19 or the M&P and the only glock I'll ever recommend is the G19 and possibly the 21SF....otherwise...nope, stay away from plastic and if ya want plastic the M&P is still my number one recommendation..

Especially for a cop in the oil field country...I've lived/worked in ND and carried a M16 & Beretta 9mm up there...and woza...I'd never carry a XD in that country...it would be carried lots, cleaned lots and shot little....how much do you shoot a year???

Id say quite a bit. I just put 500 roubds through it at thr range without a problem

your ammo, you paid for, or issue ammo not that it matters...and 50rds is a start...once ya get 60K rounds downrange see how the pistol is holding up....

Do some research on the Springfield XD its made in Croatia, Springfield purchased the rights to sell it, made a few minor changes and jacked up the price of em....before Springfield purchased the rights to sell em stateside they were known as the HS2000 and were quite a bit cheaper....you are paying way to much for one new....now they ain't bad for carry a lot shoot little safe queen and people who ccw em but you won't see them in hevy duty/nasty use as they just can't stand up to it..

It seems you are more intent on attacking the fact that i dont go to the gym than recommending a proper duty pistol...fact-i am airforce for the past 8 years and have never had less than a 95 on our pt test. However that is not my major point. you are contradicting yourself when you recommend against the xd for the reason of moving parts and then recommend a Sig that has more moving parts.:argh: Now as far as the comparison for 9mm and 45 to 40smith... if i could combine the good things about multiple calibers i would say the mag capacity of a 223 with the knockdown of a 50 bmg all concealable in a package no larger than the average 1911 but you cant do that. when it comes down to it 40 smith has close magazine capacity as the 9mm and more knockdown power. when you look at actual powerfloor of the rounds the average 40 smith exceeds the powerfloor of the average 45. now we can go into LE only rounds and +p rounds if you wish but the average powerfloor of both 40 and 45 is 165000 and the average powerfloor of 9mm is down around 135000. I agree that 45 is the best choice for knockdown and 9mm is the best for mag cap. but why not get the best of both worlds in 40s&w

Arsenal, yours getting emotional and all kinds of wound up here....

Plastic pistols...the Croatin made XD has more parts than the Glock or the M&P and has a higher falure rate. It's not as good of a pistol as the Glock 19 or the M&P...take a look at professional instructor classes & see what the staff and students are running...as a example you will never see the Magpul guys run a XD, but they do run M&P's among other pistols...

The Sig is not a plastic pistol, never "compared" it to the XD, you just said it's "heavy" but it does have a plastic grip that some people do not like, but it's a better shooter and better in shitty conditions than the XD any day of the week.

As far as the AF's PFT...it's a joke...plain and simple and anybody that knows a thing about PT will say the same thing, at least the bike test is not the primary test any more...

As far as the 40, how many actuall shootings have you seen or delt with...or are you just spouting out numbers you have read?? I've seen several & they are nothing special & no worse than a 9mm....one guy was shot in the aorta by a G40 (sheriff shot him) and we got him alive to the ER where a friend & mentor held his heart and did massage on it as the Doc' tried repairing it...sure the guy died, but it was more than 30 min after being shot in the heart...and this was by the much valuted 40 short and week.

What is powerfloor anywhoo, that's a new made up name to justify the cartridge or something???

In real world preformance the 9mm and the 40 both with premium bullets and good shot placement run so close togeather you can't really tell the difference. The 40 was designed and marketed as a step down 10mm for those who could not control the full power 10mm & as such is a comprimised cartridge that many people love for whatever reason.

Nothing more than a competition shooter and former first responder. I have dealt with 7 total shootings and the number one thing that was the deciding factor on whether or not the guy died or stopped was shot placement and not caliber. you cant miss with a big enough bullet to end a gun fight. Power floor is a measurement of a rounds total kinetic energy potential which is the grain of the bullet multiplied by FPS. this gives a pretty good idea of overall power of a round. This is used in competition also to level the playing field and make sure people who are reloading arent running "pop cap" or underpowered rounds in order to gain an advantage. when it comes down to it the shootings ive dealt with have all had one thing in common. the victim didnt care what caliber he was shot with...he did however wish that he hadnt been shot. Heck for arguments sake the 22LR and the 25ACP kill more people per year than any other caliber so i guess that those are great rounds tooo?:td: anyway...go with what is comfortable in your hand and what you already have the most training on. When it comes down to it the thread is not to argue about caliber so i will refrain from going on about this subject. I felt the need to post since you were questioning my qualification to answer the question. :c:

Ramprat 09-10-2011 02:18 PM

So Power floor is based on mathmatical calculations...sort of like major and minor calibers used in IPSC....

The guys I've seen shot with a 25....never even made it to the floor of the hospital, one was point blank to the base of the skull and it never even penatrated the skull... :humm:

Must admit the guy shot in the hand with a 40 at contact distance was wimpering/crying/whining like a little girl...it stopped him in his tracks...was a drug deal gone bad & dang, why is it the big guys with the tough guy attitude..pony tails, tats, smoking & dealing drugs always turn into little girls after being shot even when sucking on a fentanyl lollipop...:s::s::s:

Oh well, off topic to a fault....:argh::argh:

Arsenal 09-10-2011 02:30 PM

its funny you mention it... the worst victim was a big mexican dude about 380# that had shot himself in the leg with a little 38 revolver because of the whole gangster blow my nuts off carry position. He was a sniveling little girl when he was being treated.:ha:
