Tried taking the grips off the 1911 and the bottom grip screw is stripped...can't get the allen wrench to grip anything...

You are going to stick the allen in the stripped screw & with a hammer whack the allen hard to jam the allen into the screw, & it'll screw out

possibly try taking some paper, towel , rag or something and put over the screwhead and push the allen wrench down it might work or it might not

pukie370 07-26-2011 10:12 PM

somtimes a metric alen will be tighter if not try a torqe, you may need to gentley tak in to get to grip.

Bingo...problem is that its a recessed screw. It will be hard to get in there to cut the slot without cutting the grip. Use a dremel.

1993firstgennewbie 07-27-2011 09:26 PM

try a easy out those screws arent that tight unless someone put guntite on it that would be pretty dumb tho those look like nice grips tho are the wilson combat

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

try smashing it against your head :argh:

Mr. Miyagi 07-28-2011 03:03 PM

Allen? All of mine are T15 Torx. Hmm...learn somethin' new everyday.

Get a sacrificial Allen bit--or Torx bit-- and JB Weld it to the screw. Wait 24 hours and it will come right out, and not hurt the grip...just don't use so much that you JB the screw to the grip.

Bucket Truck 07-28-2011 05:03 PM

^^^^Use super glue, its much faster.

Instead of hammering the allen into the screw, you could try keeping counter clockwise pressure on the screw as you tap it with a hammer. This has worked for me on stubborn screws before. Just turn as you tap. Good luck with it!

Mr. Miyagi 07-28-2011 05:18 PM

Yes, super glue works well, too......as long as some mouthbreather didn't put loctite on the grip screws. lol

EZ out form lowes or HD... And you will use them again on other stuff.

RSWORDS 07-29-2011 04:50 PM

And I'm not sure rampy because you have absolutly destroyed that screw but it almost looks like a torx to me not an allen.
