The .17hmr is a good little round. I have a marlin bolt and its killed hundreds if not thousands of small varmints. Dropped a coyote at 200yds with it but I try to shoot at 150yds or closer. The 17gr rounds are flat shooters and the 20gr rounds drop a lot. If you want more gun you can't go wrong with a good .223. I haven't shot the .204 but I hear its a sweet gun too.

I can recommend the Zeiss scopes. not cheap, but very accurate, shock resistant, humidity sealed, very good to handle with gloves.
I hate to say it, but they are cheaper in the US than in Germany.:madd:

i also have a markin bolt action ,17 with a BSA tacticale scope. the scope isnt real great but it allows to use the turrets for easy compisation for wind drift and drop.

I have a 17hmr and love it. Stay with the 17 grain bullets. The 20gr isn't as accurate. If your lookin for a centerfire the 17 fireball is a good one. 223rem is the classic, 204ruger is a great one!, 22-250 is a great one too but is a very hot load and will eat the rifling eventually. You can get AR versions in all of these I believe. I know they make uppers for 223, 204, 17, 9mm, 308, 6.8mm, 30ar, and even 7.62x39. I have had ar's in the past and if your up for it. You could buy the parts and build your own. The 17hmr for rimfire is awesome though. I have a Savage 93 SS BBL accutrigger in 17hmr. And the 204 is right on par with the 22-250 and it won't eat the barrel over time and has very low recoil and report.

You might wanna check this site for 221 ammo. >>> 221fireballaccutip

my next varmit gun will be a browning or weatherby .204 with a leupold VXIII 4.5x14x40mm with the varmit cross hairs.

Have you had a look at the HK SL8 (.223). Better accuracy as the G36, awesome look, 10round mag standard, just put in the G36 30 round mag( plug and play):rocking:

i would go with a .308 like a remington 700.. i say .308 because it's the universal rifle round ammo is cheap and can be used for more than just varmit. top that off with a leupold 10x scope and you've got a great varmiter..but that's just me..:c:
