Nice! I had a .308 Panther. I sold it to afford to get the family started. I am really wanting to build my own next year with my refund check. But!, there is a PSL at the local gun shop that is very tantilizing! It would go good with the sks and the ak! You had any time with one of these?
|
i love my SW40VE 40 cal 14+1 round light balanced and fast shootin. if i had more money i would have got a kimber 1911 full tatical.
|
Has anyone mentioned the most powerful handgun in the world the .44 magnum? and How old do you have to be to a .22 rifle
|
The 44 is a long way from the most powerful handgun. And a 22 is the same as any other gun.
|
yeah, agreed, it used to be, the new S&W 500 beat it out and theres several others that beat it. not sure bout your state but you have to be 18yrs old to buy a long gun and 21 to buy a handgun in my state and im pretty sure thats a common law across the country.
Someone said taurus's are junk, well, ive had mixed results, i had a Pt111 9 mm millieum pro and it was junk sold it 2 wks ago but my OSS and my pt1911 are awesome, ran hundreds of rounds threw em with out a problem. I also just sold a springfield XD .45, i didnt care much for it, i shoot really good with a pistol and its accruacy seemed to be hit and miss at distances of 10yds plus. sold those too guns and got me an ar15 to go with my AK47 |
out of all the handguns I've shot the .44 was defenetly up there in power and the most accurate. I've shot colt .45, .38, single action .22 revolver, 9mm, and a single action 44 magnum.
|
oh its a dangerous and powerful gun dont get me wrong, thats what i want next anyway, im just telling you that in terms of overal power, it aint the most powerful in the world anymore, it was back in the dirty harry days
|
yeah I can see that. I havn't really shot any new model handguns just mostly revolvers
|
what you need to do is find a range that rents guns and spend a day and some $$$ to find what you truly like. I grew up shooting, my dads big into gun collecting so ive fired just about everything caliber wise so i chose a .45 ACP for my first pistol when i turned 21 a few yrs ago
|
I'm going to be 18 next month. and I wanted to buy a 30-30 lever action. I Don't mean to hijack the thread but will I be able to or do I have to be 21?
|
You have to be 18 to buy a long rifle,(shotguns high powered rifle etc.). you have to be 21 to buy a handgun. im in the same boat as you. wanting to buy handguns but i cant being 18:booo:
|
You should be good. Most states say 18 for long guns (rifles & shotguns) and 21 for handguns. Of course states like Commiefornia, Illinois and New York may be different. Quickest way to find out is just call your local gun dealer, but I do believe you are in the clear for your .30-30.:U:
*BTW. Don't know what rifle you are looking at, but the Marlin 336 rocks!:rocking: |
X2 on the 336!:U:
|
375 ultra mag:U: i can garuntee a :ouch: with that gun.
|
I want a Marlin 1895 in 45/70. Now thats a gun!
http://www.shooterschoice.com/marlin/1895sbl.jpg This is a 7.62NATO next to the 45/70.:U: http://www.fmft.net/45%2070.JPG |
My buddy has an 1895 "Guide Gun" in .450 Marlin. It's basically a .45-70 with a magnum-type belt instead of a rim and loaded to higher pressures. It's pretty stout at both ends!
|
Yeah, I like the 45/70gov:U: better just cause of the history. 450 marlin is a awesome round!
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- If you want a nice entry level 1911 the Rock Island Armory makes a few different models. The 1911 A1 tactical is a good start. Available in 45acp and 38 super(close to 357 sig) http://www.asbrand.com/pics/guns/191..._1911a1_02.jpg |

Below is .223 (5.56mm NATO), .308 Win (7.62 NATO) and .460 Weathetby Mag. |
.460 in action lol |
Anything over .375 is uneccessary...I'd even go so far as to say overall anything over .30 caliber is uneccessary.
That of course doesn't change the fact that the medium and large bores are hella cool and I want a bunch of them. :yeah: |
ya i agree. i only shoot a 7 mag and a .243 for antelope and deer. if you cant make an accurate shot with a small calibar then a big gun shouldnt be needed. just my opinion.:U:
|
D.M. Bell shot quite a few of his 1,000+ elephants with a 7x57 Mauser.

Same can be said for personal/home defense. Yeah a .22 can kill a man...eventually, but a .45 will put him down and keep him there. For North American big nasties, I think something around the .338 Win or .340 Weatherby is the ticket, although a Marlin levergun in .450 Marlin for the 1200lb Alaskan Brown Bear or majorly pissed moose hiding in that tall grass 15 yards in front of ya would feel pretty good also. |
Thanks guys for the input.
I got to the range today with a few of a buddies guns. A Firestorm 380, Springfield XD 45cal, and a Mossberg 500 12ga. I am gonna get one of them Mossbergs, I really liked it. As for the handguns, that little 380, I didnt care for. The price on it is nice at about 300 bucks, but the sight was too big, and the bullet drops alot, making the groups hard to control. The 45 on the other hand, sweet gun. I will consider that one :U: |
That 380 ammo is very scarce right now and $$$. You can get 45acp for about the same price. I guess with the shortages, production must have bumped up on 9 and 45 with the other calibers left behind. Like everything else it should come back and go down in price.

My trusty ol 270 and 280 Browning A-Bolts have never let me down :rocking:

Laser grips are cool, only problem is the bad guy also knows where you are too. I'd much rather have some type of retina-burning Sure-Fire light mounted to my home-defense gun. Sure the bad guy is still gonna know where you are, but he'd have as much luck shooting you as Stevie Wonder.
Laser sights are only high speed in Chuck Norris's Delta Force or if it's IR and your allies are the only ones with NVG's...and that's partially so they can see where each other are located. ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- I'm really happy with my Glock 22(.40); a good, metal, 1911 frame is really nice...I swear there are more little mods to do to the 1911's than an AR! Ooh, you could always build an AR-Pistol! I suppose you could take it a step farther and build an AR10 pistol...nothing like .308 for stopping power. Okay, that was just excessive. |
greasemonkey, Captn_tyler can't realy build an AR pistol if he lives in Commifornia can he? :w2:

Here's a thread on Calguns.net on how to either build or import and DROS it at an FFL. After you bring it in as a single shot, it can legally be changed to semi-auto, a Bullet Button classifies it as a "fixed magazine" so it's not classified as an AW, short barrel rifle or anything else 'evil'. Legally it's just a semi-auto pistol :) PRK Arms here in Fresno usually has them in stock, they have an FFL and will assist you with ANYTHING California legal, check out their site!! Here's an XCR 'single shot pistol' specifically for import into California. :U: http://www.robarm.com/prodimages/XCR...l-Micro-LG.jpg This one's for you, California::moon: |
I didn't think you were allowed to own any weapons in California:humm::tttt: Your shot gun will double as a very good home defense gun. The sound of the action in the dark alone will make an intruder wet themselves.:lol88: As far as a carry gun my .45 is on the heavy side; a poly frame would work much better. For a quality .45 do yourself a favor and check out Kimber's line before you buy. And last but not least ; for the 30-30 lever , if you get one please be VERYcareful putting it on safe . The hammer may slip out from under your thumb , and you'll have an accidental discharge.:ph:ALWAYS practice the #1 rule in gun safety ALWAYS keep your gun pointed in a safe direction.
|
Well, the 2nd is actually not a constitutional right for us, YET; the Calguns Foundation, the Second Amendment Foundation and the NRA are on a roll, though. Soon, very soon.
Shotguns are definitely good, too; when you rack the slide it lets bad guy #2 know that dropping b.g. #1 was just a warm up for you. |

Anybody who thinks the sound of racking a shotgun will scare off a goblin has no idea what they speak of.. Course if ya load that same shotgun with birdshot ya ain't exactly the smartest card in the bird poop...... ---AutoMerged DoublePost---

^^^^That. Something like a surefire will absolutely destroy their night vision and it's bright enough to stun/disorient them, it takes about 2 seconds to reorient yourself after getting that bright of a light shined in your eyes in the dark...2 seconds is A LOT of time. Even after that, it definitely leaves a big blind spot in your vision for a few minutes. Bright light for the win in home defense!
What happens if I shoot the light, or even better the person holding the light.. Ever done this little stunt with paintballs or wax ammo, sure it sounds good, but in real life if you actually expect to blind a attacker for 2 seconds by shining a light in there eyes you are full of fail..... :mom::mom::mom::mom: |
Oh good, ms ramprat, the goddess of firearms is on a roll again...glad you're here to save us all.
For your first rebuttal, actually read what I said...I implied that racking the shotgun after dropping bad guy #1 (that means you already neutralized the first threat to your life without racking the slide but just clicking the safety off and firing the already chambered shell) and I DID NOT say that it would simply make #2 scamper off or make you invincible...just that hearing the slide rack was the first sound he'd hear after the first shot rang out and it should warn him that it's game on...if bad guy #2 hears the slide rack, that means A. you're still alive and B. you're hunting him. As for the part about the light, you're going to have to look Lt Col Dave Grossman up and go tell him he's full of crap and doesn't know what he's talking about and that he's been misinforming our country's swat and military forces.:pca1: |

Figure if a man can talk about a subject they can talk about the background/training they have that makes em so knowledgeable, just like having a 20 year diesel mechanic talking about a powerstroke diesel vs a guy who just purchased his 1st diesel and a banks system, has read a magazine or two & is now a SME. |
