you do realize that takes 12 gauge rounds right???

Dr. Evil 07-25-2009 10:37 AM

Whats that worth?

Since its a 12 guage, its possibly a gun I could own (but I doubt it). Most of the ones you guys post I cant have.

LOGANSTANFORTH 07-25-2009 11:36 AM

its 550-600 normally with the wood stock and 5 round clip, its esentially a 12 gauge rifle when you buy it, you can get a 18 or 24 inch barrel from what i understand......then add on the skeletized folding stock with pistol grip, the forward grip and the hi-cap mags and you got yourself a killing machine....

Shane its designed and manufactured to be very identical with a AK47, you may want to check but the trigger assembly may take some of their parts, im not sure.....and from what ive heard you guys cant own a AK47 in any form what so ever.....and it is semi automatic only but im sure someone has converted one....

so what exactly are you allowed to own in canada.....sharp sticks and a rock??? or are sharp sticks to dangerous......i apologize for this but that part of canada really sucks the big one.....Alberta needs to become its own country so it can lead a life of normalcy......think they would take california for trade??? id even go as far as letting them have texass so ya'll got somewhere warm to vacation besides cuba....

Mr. Miyagi 07-25-2009 05:29 PM

Shane, they're listed as an "AK variant weapon" which IIRC makes it prohibited in Canada. Sorry, bud. :booo: :argh:

They're manufactured by Izhmash in Russia and imported by RAAC--Russian American Armory Corporation. A few were imported pre-RAAC and the quality was suspect. "Vodka Specials" as they're called...

They are using enough U.S. made parts to be considered "produced here" but if a guy uses too many AK47 components in the conversions he can end up with a rifle containing less than the minimum required component amount and have an illegal weapon in the U.S. as well...

The main conversion is to move the trigger group forward to the standard Kalishnikov AK47 location.

FWIW they never came through RAAC with wood stocks and grips....many of those are AK47 added accessories that are produced offshore and don't count towards the U.S. parts content, although there are people here making them, too.

You can buy all the trigger group parts from Tapco, Tromix, etc and convert one yourself, or get the Tapco pistol grip buttstock and keep the rearward trigger group if you so desire. All the pic rails, muzzle brakes, etc are made here and count towards the U.S. content, as are the high capacity mags.

I have enjoyed my converted and non-converted units immensely.

RAAC also imports the Saiga-20 and Saiga-410 versions.....and a .308 rifle, too.

Prices range from $499-699 new and if you have one converted and modified like in the pictures from one of the major conversion places, expect to spend over $1000 total. If you are at all handy with gunsmith work, or have a friend who is, the trigger conversion is not difficult, just time consuming.

IZHMASH Saiga-12 Shotguns has all the info a guy could ever want for one of these things.

They will cycle just about everything from full power LE slugs to low recoil trap rounds without fail. Just like any AK-variant...they shoot anything, and will do so for a long time.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Oh, they've already been converted to FA as well. Using the AK select fire trigger groups.

Dr. Evil 07-25-2009 08:31 PM

Well, I tried - sure would love to have one. Maybe I can get one when I come to my senses and move to Montana? Thanks for the info guys.

BTW, we sure the HELL dont want California. Were screwed up enough as it is. Thanks for the offer tho....lol

Shotguns and hunting rifles. (I believe the capacity is 5 or less rounds). Some people have handguns, but with all the rules and hoops (and expense) they make you go through, its just not worth even trying to have a handgun. There are LOTS of people here that hunt ad there are lots of guns around - but there just inst the variety that you guys have.

Yup, it does suck.

and yes, I would love it if Alberta became Texas North. Id be in, in a heatbeat.

Mr. Miyagi 07-25-2009 11:20 PM

Doc, if they will allow you to have a shotgun that 'technically' can hold more than 5 rounds but with a plug can be limited, check out the Benelli M-line.

The M4 is just bad ass.....but the M2 (pump) and M3 (combo pump/semi auto) are pretty neato, too. :U:

This is a fun site, too...if you haven't seen it before.

Logan that's awesome! those Saiga 12's are outstanding! and when properly converted, are even legal in California! (PRK Arms is the main shop converting and importing them to California...legally!)

LOGANSTANFORTH 07-26-2009 10:16 AM

after Dan saying they have 410 and 20 versions i think im more interested in one of those......hopefully they have the same drum clip available so you could feed 30+ 410's through it.......that should work for deer hunting better and talk about slinging some lead, and since they are 410, i wonder if with a little work you could sling 45 long colts through them.....

txredman 07-26-2009 10:25 AM

Nice!! :U::U::U::U::U::U::U:

The Saiga 20 has barely any market share and high cap stuff isn't readily available for it.

The Saiga 410 is pretty popular. Mike Davidson was thinking of making a 32rd drum for them, and both he and Surefire offer high cap stick mags for the 410.

Honestly, why would you want a 410 over a 12 for deer hunting? I mean yeah anything that goes bang is cool, but a 410 is pretty well worthless unless you're pushing a 3" slug through it...if you're doing that you may as well keep the 12 and run a low recoil 00 buck or slug round, if the recoil is an issue. These things aren't real shoulder breakers--actually are pretty comfortable. I'd rather shoot a 3" full power Dixie Tri-Ball out of my Saiga 12 than my 11-87 Police any day...

A Saiga 12 will push a 2 3/4 slug out past 50 yards accurately through the smooth bore...I can show you if you'd like. :choochoo:

There is a .444 Marlin conversion running around for the 410, FWIW....

LOGANSTANFORTH 08-03-2009 01:15 AM

Dad just picked mine up saturday.....BOOOYAAAAA!!!!!!

700 bucks after everything including a 12 round mag.....Dad paid for it on friday and Tim (Tim's Gun Shop Lakeland and Winter Haven Florida) went and got it that night and had it at the store the next day for dad to pick up.......I am ordering all the rest of the stuff today or tomorrow from Tim and having him do the conversion on it......NASTY.......the 20 round mag is like 350-400 bucks.....i dont think i need it quite yet......

Some guy was in Tims shop and asked my dad why in gods name would someone want a shotgun that held 20 rounds, dad replied with......

"Tim has a working tank in his garage and has a working missile carrier under his car-port.....What part of owning a shotgun that holds 20 rounds wouldnt he want."

God I cant wait for deer season next year......

here is my parts list for the gun with part numbers........

Trigger Guard: Tromix SGP75 ($40-50)
Fire Control Group: Tromix SGP35 ($40-50)
Internal Receiver Block: Ace AKRBC ($40)
Side Folding stock: Ace AKFX-FS ($125)
Forearm: Chaos Quadrail (hella good price until 7/31/09!) ($99)

Dan if it was my choice I would deer hunt with a Vulcan from a A-10 Warthog.........

You may as well keep the whole plane, since the gun is about 80% of it anyways, and then you can fly in to the really remote areas. Saves time that way. :U:

mines only 12, for the price of the drum its almost just as cheap to buy another rifle.......

The shop was closed yesterday and today so i'm going to call tomorrow (wednesday) and order the stuff.......

Mr. Miyagi 08-03-2009 11:25 PM

Get them while you can.....before the ATF rules them a destructive device, although if that happens we'll probably need retroactive tax stamps and possibly surrender them anyways.

Mr. Miyagi 08-05-2009 10:06 AM

LOGANSTANFORTH 08-05-2009 10:45 AM

LOGANSTANFORTH 08-18-2009 05:58 AM
