And the kid didn't know the price but seems like a fine rifle ruger suggests 2100 as retail but idk what real world is thoughts?

if you dont have an AK, get an AK first.

The ruger SR762 is a "economical" version of the HK SR762.

if your looking for something in 30 cal thats reliable, cheap, and doesnt cost an arm and a leg to shoot,

A vepr in 54r is a good option.

I was an armorer in the USMC for 4 years and i was appalled by how fragile AR's are.

VEPR.... same as SVD, or are they different? Look similar from the outside looking in..... and, are they available w/threaded barrels? 54R seems louder than '06 to me. (funny note: was at range one fine day with son. He was shooting his M-44 Mosin. I was supervising. There was a fly buzzing around near our table/bench. Son cracked a round downrange, and the fly just crashed, dead, to the table. The Russian Concussion terminated him in mid-flight, from back near the breach of the rifle, not even near the muzzle.)

unfortunately it isnt. the SVD internally is completely different.

a vepr can be threaded. they dont come that way, but its a popular enough modification that there are muzzle devices made specificly for them.

54r uses a powder that is slower burning then 06, considering most of it was designed to shoot out of 23+ in barrels.

Ditto the long-barrel/slow-burn powder, the Mosin Carbine megaflame is pretty damn entertaining in low-light conditions..... So, in terms of coolness-per-dollar, which is a better value: SVD or VEPR?

SVD's roll into the $3k range on up, but vepr's can be had around $700. deffently a better deal unless your a collector.
