Skip it, XD'a are not approved for .mil or federal LEO usage, they have to many problems.....and have not passed the requirements for either LEO or mil usage. That in itself says a lot about the pistol....

Okay, what should I be looking for them ramprat? Price range is 500 or less, no compact crap lol.

Actually, believe it or not a "compact" is quite a viable pistol....

You can take the M&P 9mm Compact and with a Xgrip adapter use 17rd mags in it and the grip feels great...for me it's got a superb natural point of aim.I carry mine with a 12rd mag, 1 in the chamber and a 17rd mag reload....

Or the full sized M&P series, again I've got a 9mm one & love it, for a full sized pistol I can conceal it 16+ hours is a quality holster and not have any problems & that's with one 17rd off side mag reload...for a total of 35rds of 9mm

Or go with a 3rd generation G19, they are not a real compact (the G17 is the full sized one) & actually bigger than the M&P 9c......

I really want a M&P 45 compact....but just can't afford it now....

You can find either a good Glock 19 or if you look around a NIB M&P for $500 or less....I've seen the G19 NIB for $517 and the M&P 9c NIB for $488, and a full sized M&P 9mm for $480 so it boils down to what your gun shops are charging....if you look at places like Sportsman Wharehouse ya can find em cheaper or on sale at Cabela's & such, just have to shop around...

Best thing to do is find a gunshop that rents guns & has a range, go and rent one of each & a box of ammo, see what fits your hands better & what you shoot better...

We have a range about 50 min away, $16 for a hour on a lane & then the price of the rental pistol and you must buy their ammo....but in the long run it's cheap to find out what you really like and shoot well.....

i was actually looking into this same gun. At sportmans warehouse it was like 600 with the extra mag holder quick loader, holster, 2 clips, and medium and large grips. i have talked to the guys at sportsmans and they said it was a good gun. most of the guys that work the gun counter there are avid gun owners and knowledgable on them as well.
