Default How it works

Despite my rather lengthy intro yesterday, I failed to mention how the Spare Shield actually works. We have all been under our trucks and hopefully know how the spare tire mechanism works, so I will not go into that much. As long as we all understand that on most trucks there is a spring at the end of the cable that secures the tire, we will be on the same page.

The Spare Shield consists of two powder-coated carbon steel tubes, the smaller of the two fitting inside the larger. The way it works is actually quite simple: the spring sits inside the inner piece, the outer piece completely encloses the inner, and the tension in the cable (when raised) secures the Spare Shield to the retainer that holds up the spare originally!

Now that may be a bit unclear, so I have attached an instructions file that may help clarify. I also attached a sample flier with a couple additional pictures and bullet points.

I had wanted to add some pictures right to this thread, but I am still working on that.
