Smile A little about us

Thanks for the support! We are glad to be here!

I thought I would give a little introduction and tell everyone what we're about.

In 2006, the creator of The Spare Shield, John Riedl, witnessed from a barber’s chair the theft of his own spare tire from a vehicle he had just driven off the dealer lot. Excited about his new purchase, he assumed the two individuals lingering at the rear of his vehicle were merely admirers. John, an average consumer, never considered his spare tire was being stolen. The entire process took less than 45 seconds.

“Necessity is the mother of all invention.”
-Plato

In our case, Plato was especially right. With the commencement of 2010, The Spare Shield was introduced as a new and innovative product to the auto market. It encases the spring and cable, the most vulnerable part of the hoist assembly, found on most SUVs, Vans, and Light Trucks in ¼” of powder-coated steel tubing. This unique design provides unequivocal protection for the undercarriage mounted spare tire.

To be a little less formal, for anyone who has had their spare tire ripped off, you know how frustrating and downright expensive it is. Not only do you have to replace the tire, wheel, and possible tpms sensor, but if your cable is snapped you also have to replace the entire hoist assembly. For small SUVs this will amount to $500 or more, and can be considerably more on these diesel trucks.

We wanted to stay away from keys and locks, and installations that require tools and time. The Spare Shield installs in minutes and requires only the jacking rods that come with your truck. For less than $50, this investment is well worth it. If you keep your truck for 10 years, you're looking at a $5/yr investment to protect something worth over 100 times that. We want to protect your investment before it becomes an issue.

Our website has more detailed information, feel free to stop by!

Nice. Now that's a story. Gotta love it when you watch it happen right before your eyes! Sounds like a great idea, especially in the city.

I have an idea for an alternate invention...

Make the tire quick release when the cable is tampered with, and build a stock looking tire, but fill it with as much lead or concrete as possible... You will lose the ability to carry a spare, but it'll be worth it.
