DIY Rockguard/Bedliner

Since the bottoms of my doors are rusting anyway I want to go ahead and use some DIY Bedliner to coat the lower portion of all the body panels on the truck to make it a rockguard. The truck is two tone with silver on the lower portions.

My question is, has anybody used this stuff on the inner door jams. I would like to coat the rocker panels and bottom of the door but I don't know if this stuff will be so thick that it will interfere with the door closing right.

Thats not going to make the rust go away. How much rust is there?

I would be tempted to use something like Rust Bullet or Por15 on the rust before doing this.

I have similar issues - wondering the same thing about the bottom of the door.

I'm just gonna sand all the rust down to bare metal and then Rust Bullet it and then the bedliner. I'm tryin to do this before the doors rust all the way through, which is comin on fast.

For the inside of the door you don't even have to clean the rust up. Just stuff some plastic in the drain holes at the bottom of the door and poor enough waste oil in the door to cover all the rusted area at the bottom and let it soak in for a few hours. Pull the plugs to drain it and your done for a few years. The oil will permeate the rust and seal it for a long time to come.

If you want to get fancy you can pull the door panel and get inside there with some sand paper and and then Rust Bullet in there also. If your gonna go that far I would also use some Lizard skin sound deadener while your in there.

subscribing. Been thinking about lining the bottom panels of my truck also. I have a couple little bubble spots. Whats the best stuff to use, line x, rhino lining, or???????

In the do it yourself market I think there may have been good and bad in times past but it's been on the market long enough now that the junk stuff has either gotten better or been weeded out of the market place. Personally, I'll just go to the local farm store and pick up whatever brand they have.

I don't expect it to last forever but with the textured stuff it's a simple matter of a few minutes to sand the surface real quick and apply a fresh coat every so many years. The gap inside the door jam and the thickness of this liner is my only concern.

i think you could use the roll-on stuff for the outside and then use that "bedliner" in a rattlecan for the inside i dont think that would cause to much interfer with the door closing

I did a buddy's truck with dupli color bed liner in the spray can. We sanded and treated the rust then used a coat of self etching primer then applied the coating to the rockers and the inner door jams. Looks great and there is no interference with the door closing. This way was really easy just make sure u cover the whole truck when spraying this stuff goes everywhere. good luck :c:
