engine bay cleaning
any tips on the most effective approch on cleaning up the bay. is a low pressure sprayer alright or just lots of simple green and rags :c: mixed with alot of elbow grease
|
Did you ever tried Diesel and a rag?
We did it in the military -before it was prohibited by law for environment safety: |
well i have plenty of that thats for sure ill have to give it a try. i was hoping i would be able to use the low pressure engine degreaser at a car wash without screwing stuff up
|
just let it soak in - start to clean the next day.
Just make sure to cover alternator and ECM, if you should use the pressure washer. It will save you some high dollars... |
Spray everything down with degreaser... drive and get the motor warm... Park it, let it cool a little, and start spraying. Then I go in with a little tub of degreaser, and a hand brush, and just scrub the stuff that needs it... Then spray it down again.

If you can afford a couple cans, get Citrol. :rocking: If it can cut through this nasty crude we produce around here like a hot knife through butter, it'll surely clean an engine bay no sweat. :tu:
|
good deal thanks guys summers here and its time to do some cleaning :rocking:

Check out my thread i have on the 95 for before and after pics :D Lotsa simple green/areosol engine degreaser, kerosene, brushes, scubbing pads and a couple of wrecked t-shirts. But its worth it!

i saw that jake thats what inspired me to start cleaning my bay up and painting a few things. did you take the exhaust manifold off to paint it cus that turned out really nice
|
This stuff works great. S100 Total Cycle Cleaner You may have to hit the really nasty spots with a brush or rag.

purple power at napa works good to my boss uses it on all the skidster and loader engines when he cleans them :tu:
|
just did this... wet the engine soak it with simple green and scrub with a tooth brush real good... turn on the power washer and spray away... it worked great for me.. O if u have a bhaf cover it!... then i used black magic engine degreaser and soaked it and power washed that off and when it dries it leaves a nice "tire wet" look... and i used my pressure washer with a 1250psi tip on it:tu:

I wouldn't use simple green is will cause alum. to corrode

First turn the engine on, then I spray it down with water getting all the big loose dirt off, then I spray the whole engine down with a degreaser called "Clean-All" and use a wash mitt to hit everything under the hood, then spray it off with a regular garden hose with a jet style tip then air dry it with compressed air. Normally I leave the engine running for about 30 minutes to dry up any remaining water. Do this every day about 5 times a day and haven't had any problems yet and always have squeaky clean engines and engine bays.
