how to save my tips

i like my tips but they are getting really poopy looking. i think they were chrome covererd at one time, but they are half covered anymore. i don't really want to spend the money to get new tips, when mine are in pretty good shape. i was wondering if there was a way to get the chorme off and just polish the steel up, or is this a bad idea????? i was digging around on the internet and i can't really find anything that helps me out. i have seen plenty of allum. polishing and i figured that there is a way to do this with stainless. any help is greatly appreciated!

... keep them nice? remove them and carry them in the cab...

Otherwise get used to it.

I use a fine sand paper on mine to bring them back a bit, but there shot. I will paint them if they get much worse.

Fine steel wool works for cleaning up chrome but if they are stainless underneath and can get the chrome off you can start with about 800 wet sand paper and work your way up to 2k in alternating directions than hit it with a bench buffer, it takes a lot of time but you can get a mirror shine out of stainless thats how I restored the stainless trim for my chevelle.

Go to a industrial kitchen supply- stainless is the only material allowed in kitchens.
They have a wide variety to clean stainless.
I use that industrial cleaner and protection on my stainless fridge - It does not take fingerprints anymore.
It contains a special formulated abrasive and coating. It's aggressive to the skin, but works extremely good on stainless.

0000 Super fine steel works wonders! If you catch it in time and keep on top of it!

this is more traditional but i take a razorblade then some nevrdull chrome polish..:humm:

I been using Nevr-Dull on brass, copper and stainless. I must say, it is great stuff! I was very surprised at what it will clean up.

I ended up taking my tips off. It wasn't worth the time and effort to keep them clean.
