so i finally got to the track......

and it rained. i got 2 passes in. both were in daily driving mode. first pass felt good. i know i was lacking on the launch a lil but i was afrais of all the stock stuff that might break. i went 9.37 @75 mph and the second pass i tripped the second bulb too early and didn't have it spooled up enough and bogged like hell and ran a 9.79 @ 77 mph. all in all it was a good night. i drove to the track and drove it home.
here are the specs on the faster pass.....

R/T .9171 (ya i know)
60 ft 2.2037
330ft 6.1168
594ft 8.7767
1/8th 9.3729

any way i'm happy it's faster than i thought it would be. and i outran a fox mustang that went 10's.....

DB Admin 08-17-2007 10:49 PM

what would this be in the 1/4?

Benjamin 08-17-2007 10:51 PM

i'm not sure..... there are so many variations on that to get an accurate guess....

jasonfriedlin 08-17-2007 10:54 PM

Gotta get that R/T down, big time

normlly i get a good light but this was my first time in this truck..... and i still haven't quite gotten the boosted launch w/o blowing the tires off the truck down pat yet. so i wasn't gonna go out there and beat on it and chance the posiability of not being able to drive it hime..... but it has been over 2 years since i've made a pass down the strip..... maybe a little rusty.....

i found a calculator formula and it came out to to high 14's in theory.....

jasonfriedlin 08-17-2007 10:58 PM

That reaction time is the hardest thing to get, takes alot of practice

cashwheel 08-17-2007 11:17 PM

Like jason said, get the RT down and you've got a very respectable run with a truck that drove to the track. nicely done!

it got a lil smokey in the begining...... sucks though it bogged.....

Johnny Cetane 08-19-2007 08:57 AM

nice run bud.:c:

RSWORDS 08-19-2007 09:49 AM

That was bad @ss Ben. God that is a pretty truck!

jasonfriedlin 08-19-2007 10:19 AM

 I give it two thumbs up

HOTMOPR 08-19-2007 10:36 AM

for timing reference the nhra class index for a car that runs in stock class K/FIA at a time of 9.45 in the 1/8th has a quarter mile index of 15.15. here is another example there is a guy that holds the national record for v/sa at 9.09 in the 1/8th at 72 mph. He also holds the 1/4 miler record in the same class and car with a 14.53 at 89 mph.. So you should run right around 15.0

Benjamin 08-19-2007 12:40 PM

thanks guys.... i'm gonna try to go to the local 1/4 mile track soon..... i just need to find a nice backroad to practice my launching technique.... i've had a few other people tell me it (the 9.37 pass) would have been anywhere from a 14.4-14.8 it all depends on how my truck pulls in high gear as i was crossing the line @ 3100 rpm in drive. if nothing else i'd like to go back to this track and try to get it down in the 8's before i spray it..... if it hadn't started raining i would have sprayed it and i know it would have gone in the 8's if i had gotten a good launch...... oh well....

jasonfriedlin 08-19-2007 12:48 PM

There's always next time. Seems like it always rains when you go somewhere like that.

Benjamin 08-19-2007 12:52 PM

i know.... it hadn't rained in like a month and when i finally get a chance to go it farkin floods.... go figure

jasonfriedlin 08-19-2007 12:55 PM

Welcome to my world!

Dr. Evil 08-19-2007 01:08 PM

With your mods I kinda thought youd be faster than that Benjamin...

Benjamin 08-19-2007 01:21 PM

mee too..... i'll pour the coals to it next time and go for broke...... i got my rollback guy in speed dial......

Dr. Evil 08-19-2007 01:29 PM

I think its your tranny thats holding you back...pull it out and ship it to me for an inspection...lol

Benjamin 08-19-2007 01:39 PM

i hear ya..... now i have heard and i know there have been plenty of threads on it but i heard a tripple disc will run slower than a single.....

i do believe that rotational mass is a big problem as the tires i have are real heavy. they are Maxxix Commercial and weigh more than any load range E i've ever used.... i have 4 of those, 4 rims, this heavy tranny and 100# + converter, the heavy SFI Billett flex plate. i know all of that adds up so i guess if i had a SRW, a stock or laminated flexplate and a lighter converter then i would be faster......

also i had both of my chrome trucker naked ladies in the grill..... i guess that added wind resistance and slowed me down...... and then the whip antenna..... i could come up with alot of excueses...... oh well it may not be faster than most cars or trucks but i'll hook to the back of them and drag them wherever they don't want to go.....lol

RSWORDS 08-19-2007 02:24 PM

I wonder if you removed the outside tire (like for a dyno run) if it would run a little faster?

Benjamin 08-19-2007 02:35 PM

i honestly wouldn't feel safe doing that..... maybe a 12 or 14" wide tire and wheel combo i'd do but a 6" wheel at that speed trying to get it to hook..... ya right.... when i painted the truck i had the outers off so it would fit in the shop and when we got done i took it for a spin with the outers off and it would roast the single off and that was stock..... let alone like it is now......
anyone know if Mickey Thompson or Nitto makes a 235/85 16 drag radial? lol

RSWORDS 08-19-2007 06:35 PM

hmmm... Why would it not be safe? I bet it would roast the hell out the tires... When I was in high shool we swaped beds on a 4cyl ranger and while the bumper nad bed was off it whoul do awesome burnouts and wicked donuts!

"I" personally wouldn't feel safe doing it. there is a reason that 250 hp / 200 tq cars put the widest slicks and dragradials on their car. to make a safe pass or to be a safe driver on the road. i couldn't imagine trying to push a 7K # truck with 350-400hp / 700-800tq on a 7" tire that isn't rated for that speed to begin with....... when i went to get new tires after i painted it the inners were about bald and the outers had descent tread...... anyway.... i got my tire guy lookin for me some rims..... one of these days i'll get them......

RSWORDS 08-20-2007 09:40 AM

That makes perfect sence. After I Posted I got to thinking about it.... Never do anythig that makes you feel unsafe.

Johnny Cetane 08-20-2007 10:33 AM

yeah ben you need to hook yourself up with about a 16x10 rear wheel and run a dot legal racing slick like nitto has. if you don't mind a steel wheel i'm sure stockton wheel could build something up for you. can't say what it's cost but they have a really good reputation.
