Blue Overhead Bulbs

I'm looking to change my overheads to a dark tint of blue... I bought some "blue" bulbs from Autozone and originally they were blue, now they're white. Does anyone know of a place where I can get blue bulbs that wont fade?

wildbill 09-23-2009 10:46 AM

Change em over to LED?? :humm:

wvsmoker 11-25-2009 03:35 PM

superbrightleds.com has tons of bulbs

rkadcock 11-25-2009 08:55 PM

I did the LEDs. However, apparently in the state of New Mexico all marker lights, even overheads have to be amber. I got pulled over last weekend going snowboarding in Durango. I'll throw a pic up tomorrow night before I put the amber's back in :dang:

But they can be as dark amber as you like..:w2:

if you are referring to cab lights thats not new mexico law thats federal law.no red or blue lights foward facing to traffic oncoming or in front of

I didnt do my homework on this one... I had an idea and went with it... They matched my C2 gauges perfectly. I ordered a set of amber LEDs so those will be here tomorrow since I forgot today was a holiday but o well... its best just to succeed to the law and not push my luck. The cop that got me could have gave me a ticket but he didn't so in the end its fine with me

no markers are allowed to be any color then amber facing forward, got wrote up for it in my semi about a month ago at the scales, had one green lens in the center of my roof ,I've only had it there 10 yrs and one of those flunky f'n dot officers finally said something about it ,but when you are checking over a 92 binder with 1.6 million on the clock and that is the only thing he could find to b!tch about:tttt:

I had a purple F-150 years ago and was always getting in trouble for purple and blue lights. I have finally gone all red and amber, then got pulled over because the red markers were making it hard to read my plate at night even though I did still have a white light illuminating it. :s: Currently though, I do have tons of blue LED's in the cab of my truck, about 80 I think. My factory guages, aftermarket guages, HVAC panel, speakers, stereo, amp, shifter, all have blue LED's.

there was a time when it was 3 green in the middle and the others amber.. if your truck is of certian years (don't ask me which years) you can have the 3 greensin the middle and the rest ambers.

I will try, for some reason, pics of LED's never turn out to well. The light doesn't look as blue in pics. My shifter is a little ricey, but it has come in quite handy as it doubles as a flashlight since it unscrews really quick. The third pic is of my door speakers, they each have 4 LED's in them. I want to get some strip lights under the dash to come on when getting in the truck.

its a lot easier to get away with lights IN the cab, prolly only get "harrased" if you were already stoped. BUT YOU CAN NOT HAVE BLUE OR RED LIGHTS ANYWHERE ON THE OUTSIDE (BESIDES THE FACTORY OEM POSITIONS FOR RED LIGHTS), THEY ARE EMERGENCY LIGHTING. when we run to DE for fishing trips, we need to rip our blue lights off of our trucks that we use for fire police/firemen (in PA) calls. in DE that is what the POLICE use for their cars. them lights can get kinda funny, and hairy. i usually tell people to stick with amber lights in the front, and red facing the rear, and nothing under your vehical (at least in pa) it is not acceptible, and will most likely get you a ticket, and not a warning. however,,,,i never heard of anyone getting yelled at for making amber clearence lights darker. but i am sure someone will correct me on some of this stuff with "official laws"

oh and the inside of your truck looks sweet, and those blue clearnce lights did look pretty sick.:tu:

sycostang67,how did you get your dash lights(guge cluster)blue?

Sycostang67 12-28-2009 11:53 AM

I got some blue 5 way LED bulbs in the cluster, just replaced the factory bulbs. I know the lighting looks patchy, but it is fully illuminated. The HVAC panel as well. The only real difference is the red colors become more purple with the blue LED's.

oneton 12-28-2009 09:32 PM

what did you do about the green gauge cluster color?i've heard there is a film type coating that makes it green

Sycostang67 12-29-2009 03:21 AM

Didn't have to do anything to it. I have heard that if I had changed to another color like red, then I may have had undesirable results. Something about blue and green being on a similar spectrum makes the blue light compatible with the green overlay. :tu:

I got pulled over one night on my way home from work because i have fog lights in the front of my truck that can change to different colors and i forgot i had them on blue. The cop was nice about it.So i never use that part of them anymore.
