Outlaw derby car
 

This is the car we helped build. I did the motor and put some tin down the sides of the car to give it a cleaner look than the gobs of plate welded on. Car got stuck twice in a way soft arena, but did get one real big hit in on a car with nothing but some paint transfer for our beast. It's ready to go for next year just the way it is, but I'm already thinking of ways to make it better!

Fill the doors full of concrete

You mean two layers of 3/8 plate underneath skin of the entire car and concrete as well? Done and done. The car is plenty strong in that respect, right now I'm looking more at a dana 60 for the rear, and rebuilding the front end to get rid of the torsion bars and a-arms. The weight is killing us right now. The motor is coming out for a chain up derby car, I'll be building a wilder version and going with a high stall converter this time.

Here's the other car we took, it's seen better days but it won't bend anymore so it keeps on going. The starter went out after getting stuck in a mud hole, then our backup starter turned out to be no better. Funny part of the day was everyone was amazed with this car when the gray car is 10X stronger.

built several.......i love it......why so low though, most of the ones we built in ohio look like 4x4 trucks they set so tall.......do you double your tires??? we used to put a bobcat inner tube inside a 205/70 with the bead cut off inside a 7.50/8.00-15 tire......they never went flat and it took 2 guys to pick them up......we also moved the valve stems closer to the center of the wheel, we used expanding foam a few times, my god were those heavy.....


ive always thought about building one with a 6.2 or NA 6.5 cause those engines can run 240+ degree temps all day long and start like they are at 170*.......and the engines can be bought all day long for 300 a piece......

Gonna lift the front end up some, haven't weighed it yet but should be in the 8000 lb range, with most of it in the front half. Only a pointed bumper will get the tires, but for next year the rears will be solid tires anyhow. The fronts we used rims off a highway patrol car, cut the centers out and flipped them around for the right backspace, stems are well protected normally on these rims but we still welded guards over them.

In the derby, another car tried to hit the passenger front wheel, our driver turned at the last minute into him and stuck the front corner at a 45 right in the nose of his car. The corner hit the guys motor wiping out everything in front of it, our car did not bend 1/4 " it was awesome. No worries about the radiator getting hit, and I built a custom tranny cooler out of an a/c coil with an electric fan and custom shroud, worked really well. I can get some after pictures, but it really is identical to the before pictures.
