Window tint advice wanted.

I want to tint the windows on my truck but i dont know how dark I want them. I am thinking of 50% maybe. I would like opions from some if you guys with tinted windows

73diesel 06-17-2009 08:01 PM

I have 5% in the back and 35% on the front 2, at 35% I can only see a slight difference between them and my windshield when its sunny out, but at night they are hard to back out of places with. hope that helps a little

7.3 Cowboy 06-17-2009 09:20 PM

U see that is why I am thinkin 50% so i can see and stuff better at night. thanks

Captain Call 06-17-2009 09:28 PM

I had 5% over the stock tint in the rear and 20% in the front and night time driving wasn't too terrible for me but others didn't care for it much. Too each his own preference when it comes down to it. I say "had" cause that was the last truck and this one is stock cause I don't live in the desert with a charcoal grey truck now. It helps tons with the heat.

KuNtRy BoY 06-17-2009 09:33 PM

:U:I love my 5% all around including my eyebrow.

sidekick 06-17-2009 09:39 PM

5% is nice but you need to check what is legal 50% isnt much at all. after my 3rd tint ticket on the blur truck i pulled it off and when the cop remeasured the side glass was 72% with nothan on it. 20% at least

midnite><og 06-17-2009 10:17 PM

50% = gay... 35% is the legal limit in NC... i have 15% on my truck.. loks realy nice and is dark enough so you cant see who is inside.. although, 15% is a little tough to see through at nite, i couldnt imagine 5%.. i reccomend 15 or 35%

CumminsCrazed 06-18-2009 10:33 AM

50% tint is almost not worth your money, its nearly the same as an OEM window...i have 20% on my truck and its not overly dark but dark enough it helps a LOT.

yea...I've got 15 on the side windows and 5 on the back...thinking about going another layer of 15 over the front windows..and then another layer of five on the rear sides and the rear one.

if i did it again i would do 20% on the front or i might would do the whole thing 5%.

i would say 15% it will match you factory tint...i have 15% on my fronts here is a pic

crewed powerstroke 06-18-2009 04:57 PM

I had a PA D.O.T. explain to me that in this state 70 % of the light has to pass through the front windows ! Check the laws for your state , to save yourself headaches .
:bat:

7.3 Cowboy 06-18-2009 09:55 PM

Ok you guys have re thinkin what I want. 35% is the legal limit here in MO

stumpy 06-18-2009 10:10 PM

i have 35% on my reg cab and its not very dark, but on my extended cab ranger i have the same tint and it is looks darker so i dont know if cab size has any thing to do wit it or not, seeing out of either of them isnt hard at nite

7.3 Cowboy 06-18-2009 10:15 PM

I think im goin with 35%. How much should it cost for 1992 F-250 regcab with not prior tint and i want some good quaility stuff?

stumpy 06-18-2009 10:37 PM

i think it would all depend on were you go but for my reg cab i think it was around 120 bucks

NebraskaHD 06-19-2009 12:36 AM

yea $120 in that ballpark sounds right thats what my reg cab cost to tint a few years ago by a small shop, and it was well worth it

wt_offroad 06-19-2009 01:30 AM

In Oregon on a truck the front/side windows 35% of the light must pass through. the rear windows can be painted black for all they care. I have 35% on the front and 5% on the rear and 5% on the Quad glass. Don't know about the rest of you, but i look out my mirrors to go backwards. :moon: Also here i have to have a permit saying that the tint is at the legal limit to. Got a ticket in the wife's car for not having it. THE DAY IT GOT TINTED:madd: 320 bucks:madd: Faught it though and got it dropped

94cummins12v 06-19-2009 10:20 AM

i have 0% lino tint on my rear window, driver and pasenger window and as a visor on the front windshield. never have baan stopped for it yet

7.3 Cowboy 06-19-2009 07:09 PM

for 35% tint it was $145

skinnysfd 06-21-2009 10:08 AM

The only thing to watch out for is if you do a lot of pulling by federal law DOTstates you cannot have any tint on the front windows of your pickup or windshield. I have 35% on front and a windshield banner and i just got a ticket and told by the DOT officer that was law. So i guess it is up to you but i know in my quad cab all the windows back 3 limo, front 2 35% and windsheild banner was only $115.

Drive with the windows down when passin' by :w2:

06 DIESEL 06-25-2009 05:43 PM

On my 01 I had 5% on the rear three windows and it was not bad to see out of at night. During a rainy dreary day when people do not turn on their headlights it is a PITA, I almost clipped a few people because of it. I have been thinking about tinting my 06 with 5% on the rear three and 15% on the front two, but just have not pulled the trigger yet.

My tint

my trucks not done but down the side windows i have 5% in the back 2 windows as well as the rear glass. the two front are 20% and the windsheild yes the windsheild is 50% note look at it its like theres nothing in it. if i live in nevada i would have it 35 or 20. If you worried about haveing tint to low because of cops all hosety they dont screw with big truck usally cause they come with factory tint usally so they dont bust you for it to much. and you have your window down when you talking to them anyways so screw um. lol hope that helped.

chrome04strokin 07-11-2009 11:11 AM

My windows are 20% all the way around. At night i is a little hard to back up but thats why the windows roll down. I dont think a truck looks right with real dark in the back and light up front. i.e 20% or 5% in the back and 35% or none in the front When i bought my truck only the backs were done so I did 20% up front to match.

97dirtydozen 08-06-2009 11:02 PM

hahah Ive got 5% on my back 3 windows on top of the stock tint..and 20% on the side and windshield and a 9" 5% brow on the front..CA is know for bad business with cops and tint but surprisingly i havent gotten messed with..and its kinda hard to see out at night only when i have my headrest monitors on..from the glare..other than that..its cool

Here is a "scale" for you
http://northerntint.com/storeimages/...hade_scale.jpg
Just remember, when you are looking into the truck the windows look darker. That scale is like you are in the truck and looking out. (I had to say it for the record, not insulting your intellegence)

My truck has 20%, hard to see out of at night without ambient light. I have to roll the window down when backing up the driveway at night. The reverse lights don't cut it.

K50 08-18-2009 10:04 AM

Jonny thanks for that post, I never knew what the difference was between all the levels.

Jonny 08-20-2009 05:53 AM

no problem, I can never remember either until I google it:w2:

Nitelord 08-24-2009 01:10 PM

Excellent post. Thanks for the scale.. :c:

torqctd 09-12-2009 05:54 AM

Legal limit here(NM) and in Tx is 20% on front and any thing goes else where.(So I was told) Quoted $ 250 with Quad Cab and eyebrow. Sound about right? (3M tint)

BIGBILL105 45 09-13-2009 01:23 PM

I got 2.5% all around on my truck and love it. A little hard to see at night but I just roll the windows down.

04redstroker 09-14-2009 02:58 PM

Im pretty sure texas is 35% in the front. I have 20% all around though and no problem at night. I only have to roll the windows down when im backing in tight spots, but thats mostly cuz the lift makes it hard to see, not the tint. Youd think in texas theyd make all parking spots bigger cuz 50% of the vehicals are full size trucks.lol

millco 09-30-2009 07:11 AM

Here is a link from where you can check out your states laws for tint levels:
International Window Film Association (IWFA)
Here in Id they only allow 35% on the front side windows and rear. The rear side windows can be 20%. I did my little car 20% all the way around and got stopped pretty quick. State boy said it had to be ripped out. I wanted to keep it (And not rip it out so quickly!) so I found out the law allows for a Dr's excuse. If you have a medical condition that requires darker tint, you are legal with that excuse / prescription in hand. Don't know if all states do that or not..

A year later, we kind of wish the front side windows and the rear window were the legal 35%. It only bothers at night backing. Stock back up lights just don't cut it anyway. My Mega has 35% on the front side windows and it is just about right.....
HTH,

alot of tint is differant.meaning some brands are darker than others all this 5%,20%,35%,means little,it also depends on what color the tint is.some tint is bronze color, some is smoke color, charcoal color, just stay away from that mirror junk, its illegal almost everywhereand it does nothing for making the vehicle dark inside.charcoal 5% is gonna be darker than smoke 5%.main thing to remember is but quality film, not that crap from the auto parts store.yas parts strore tint is dark as hell but is crap quality.look for llumar or 3m for the best.qaulity tint with little maint. will last longer than cheap tint with weekly maint.also fed dot law states you can have tint on winshield but cannot be within 6 in of center of windshield.hope maybe this helps (both my trucks have 5% all the way around with 30% on whole windshield, top has 10 in 5% strip with 30% below that stripe .also not really recommended to put layers of tint on meaning 2 layers of 5% on back glass and doors)
