You could try some Turtle Wax chrome polish, it has worked really well on everything I have used it on. It's in a white bottle and you can get it at Wal-Mart for around $1.68.

chrome polish, rubbing compund, fine steel wool, galss cleaner.. what is it? is it ON the chrome or IN it??

It was a little rust then I got the bright idea that 1000 grit sand paper would not hurt it:argh:now a friend of mine said you can see the brass under the chrome. It is not flaking or or deep it is very smooth.I thought it might just be tarnished.I did try the chrome polish from turtle wax first but it would not come clean..then I tried after and nothing.

If the chrome is actually pitting, you will need an aggressive (abrasive) polish to remove it and get into the chrome.

I had really heavy oxidation and haze from road dirt and weather on the spare wheel. The Adams product Metal #1 and #2 cleaned that up very nicely. The Metal polishes we have are not an abrasive cut, they are chemical cut only. They may work, but I can't tell from the pix if the chrome is beyond the products ability.
