Dent Removal

An easy way to take out dents that I found. They say it works, but i have nothing to test it on  thank god..... But I figured I'd share. Cheap trick to try b4 you go the paintless dent removal route! http://www.metacafe.com/watch/501379/remove_car_dent_with_airduster/

MikeyR 04-13-2008 03:56 PM

that's pretty cool, but how does the canned air work?

Benjamin 04-13-2008 05:00 PM

it should work..... simple sicence ....... expansion and contraction. getting the metal to relax and then tighten back up into it's previous shape...... i may have to try that on some spare doors i have around the shop......

Nitelord 04-13-2008 09:08 PM

I've got a dent. I'll try it tomorrow after work. :U:

Red_Rattler 04-24-2008 08:28 PM

Anyone give this one a shot yet?

Diesel-N-Dust 04-25-2008 02:27 PM

I have a small dent I may try on.

Diesel Dawgs Performance 05-18-2008 04:33 PM

Did this work? :pca1:

dieseljunkie 05-31-2008 04:39 PM

I'm gonna try it tommorow I think... Gotta find the wife's hair dryer.. I have a couple dents in the door of my truck I will give it a shot on :D Maybe Monday if I can't do it tomorrow.

theres a big ol' dent on the work truck:w2:....might be a good idea to try it on that

bow2no1 05-31-2008 08:35 PM

dry ice works also:U:

dieseljunkie 06-01-2008 09:38 PM

I will post here before and after pictures. I am going to try it tomorrow morning to see how it works. I am hoping it works out because these dents are pretty slight, but I'd still like the truck to be dent free...

dozerboy 06-03-2008 05:39 PM

Well how did it work?

dieseljunkie 06-03-2008 07:20 PM

I didn't work, but its mostly because the hair dryer wasn't hot enough... I think I'll try a suction cup next, unless I can find a real heat gun that gets hotter.

sherpadad 06-25-2008 11:40 AM

I tried it on a small dent I had, spent $8 for the can of stuff, -65 degress it said and I used a heat gun to warm it up...conclusion I wasted $8 BUCKS AND 10 MINUTES :argh:

might work on a specific type of dent, but not on mine.

jlayne 06-25-2008 06:31 PM

that will work on dents on thin panels that have small not very deep or sharp dents in them... if the metal is stretched any that trick won't work.. there is nowhere for it to go

I would also use a heat gun and just be carefull not to discolor or damage the paint

i work in a bodyshop.. we have had 2 major hail storms in town this year one of which hit the shop including my truck and the 90+ cars we had in progress... what a mess i have been working 60-70hrs a week for the last 2 months.... we will be working on hail cars this time next year, the first storm had softball size dents.... you don't PDR those... you cut the roof off and replace it :ouch:

Blue01F250 06-25-2008 07:26 PM

yah, i'm jsut finishing up all my estimates/claims for hail damaged cars around here -- thank God we didn't have hail that big... most of ours is PDR'able... Conventional repair for hail dents cna get EXPENSIVE and total a lot of cars, specially ones that were already damaged in the first place!

jlayne 06-26-2008 09:57 PM

blue do you work for a bodyshop or insurance co.?

I'm a parts manager/estimator for a large production shop here in central ga.

Benjamin 06-26-2008 10:04 PM

Yah, I worked 2.5 years for Progressive Insurance in Oklahoma... then I took the job working as a pipeline controller and have been doign that for over a year now, but decided to inspect cars to keep my adjusters license current and to make a little extra cash on the side...

oh, and btw, I HATE FLOOD CARS!!!!!!!!!!!!

jlayne 06-27-2008 06:54 PM

cool, we have a could of hotties that write for progressive that come by the shop, when they are there our speed goes way down LOL

i have been lucky, we don't get many flood cars in my neck of the woods... with all the bad weather we have had i have written several that was mushed by trees, most of them (luckly) totaled. the worst part of my job is dealing with some nimrods on the phone that wants to rewrite my estimate from 100 miles away and they have never held a wrench in their had :argh: but they are going to tell me how to fix the cars and how long its going to take :bat:

MMStar923 08-09-2008 04:12 AM

havent tried the spray and hair dryer trick, but i tried dry ice and it flat out doesnt work. waste of $12 and my time

Nitelord 12-08-2008 11:10 PM

I guess this is more for a caved in body panel. I tried it on a dent that I have on the fender. It is actually a crease from the bottom edge of the battery. The nut that installed my snow plow, dropped the battery on the fender.

In either case the canned air didn't do it.:argh:
