Built me a bumper!

Well guys, I finally got around to building a bumper. It's pretty big, but it's a stout one.

Sweet skull crusher fer those pesky proud drivers

Sent from my dumb phone!

fordornothing 06-23-2012 09:21 PM

i was thinking about putting some bail spears on it so you can hit a deer and keep going. when you get to where you're going you'll have jerky. LOL

1999stroker 06-23-2012 09:24 PM

Haha that's a good fucking idea I tell what!

wow a cow tipper:humm:

fordornothing 06-30-2012 07:37 PM

no body else is going to comment on it? i'd like to get others opinions on this thing!

allen2289 06-30-2012 08:07 PM

Bet you could mount a hell of a winch too it

fordornothing 07-01-2012 08:44 AM

i really considered putting a winch in there but then if i know me, i would be very encouraged to do alot of stupid things.

huricane 07-14-2012 02:45 AM

nice bumper but you do know its only as strong as your supports that hold it to the frame

1AMatt 07-19-2012 12:03 PM

That thing looks mean :rocking:

fordornothing 07-19-2012 06:31 PM

i am confident that the frame will hold it. i have a piece of 1" X 3" flat that goes into the frame and bolts down to where the tow hooks were. then that is welded to a piece of 7" X 3/8" flat that goes across the frame. i'll put a picure of the mounts on here so you have a better idea.

matthew2-4-u 07-19-2012 06:55 PM

looks like it belongs on the front of a locomotive. ain`t a bad thing ever try stopping a train!?

fordornothing 07-19-2012 07:05 PM

not kidding here guys, i work in the oil field and at the shop we had a water truck come in that needed some work on the pump. my bumper is bigger!! hell this thing is almost as big as the bumpers on the gin trucks.

PSD-BLACK-CLOUD 07-19-2012 08:22 PM

Its fabed up really nice. you do good work. I just think it is a bit to long. But I bet it makes a hell of a work platform. It still looks way better than the stock crap.

joker07 07-19-2012 09:41 PM

looks good but i would probably want some thing to go around the head lights make i took more complete

fordornothing 07-21-2012 07:26 PM

psd blackcloud. thank you. well it wasn't entirely planned to stick out that far. when i was breaking out the plates between the frame and square tube i made them a little to long. but for being my first one i think it turned out very well. if i were to do it again i would change a few things. it looks alot bigger than it really is because of the space on the sides in front of the head lights. but this is more of a "oil field" style.

PSD-BLACK-CLOUD 07-25-2012 04:51 PM

You weld on pipe line?

fordornothing 07-25-2012 06:21 PM

no. i work in the oil patch though. if you look at winch trucks they have this same style bumper. and i thinks it looks bad ass.

PSD-BLACK-CLOUD 07-26-2012 07:01 PM

I didnt even think about that. But it is the same style.

fordornothing 07-26-2012 08:02 PM

that's what i based it off of. and this is very close to one of the gin trucks at the shop.

CSIPSD 08-01-2012 03:48 PM

Holy hell man! You need a forklift just to mount it.

Not my style, but it looks well made and well thought out.:tu:

fordornothing 08-01-2012 03:51 PM

Thanks Joe! No forklift needed. Just the 5 ton overhead at the shop. LOL

Truck Guy99 08-27-2012 03:18 PM

That is a sweet bumper man!!!!:tu: The only things I would do is add more on to it. I want to make one simialer to yours when I buy my truck. If it was mine, I would make some headlight protectors to finish it out a little more, mount a 10k winch to it, and add some d ring shackles to make it all look like this:

Wehorevinly 08-30-2012 12:59 AM

Looks bulky but sturdy too.. cant you adjust it in such a way it could become compatible with headlights too.. it should be a little long running through the corners...

fordornothing 08-30-2012 06:39 PM

adjust which part? there really is no up/ down or side to side motion. i have 2 tabs on the bottom to put some fog lights on down the road.

deck60 09-12-2012 08:52 PM

looks great I personally think it needs headlight protectors a deer will still take out your headlights

fordornothing 09-13-2012 06:56 PM

well if i see the deer i'll swerve into them so i hit it head on not on the side. i did the other night. granit i was only doing about 45 but it made a good bounce.

mgtexas 09-14-2012 03:37 PM

Nice fab work! Did you use 3/16 plate? To me the best part of fabrication is building things exactly like we want them. Congrats.

Mike

fordornothing 09-16-2012 05:56 PM

i have all 3/8" plate for mounting. the main square on the front is 4' X 6" X 1/4" square tube. then the othere square tube is all 1/4" wall. the uprights are 3/8" plate with a 1/8" wrap for cosmetics. the top deck is 1/8" tread plate. and under the head lights is 1/16" tread plate. it's alot of iron in there.

jay42782 01-19-2013 08:10 AM

great job:tu:

tiremann9669 01-19-2013 02:26 PM

Nice Bumper :tu:

ruralnv 02-23-2013 08:07 AM

I like it.

inlinepwr 02-23-2013 03:33 PM

Looking good

4x4manonbroke 07-28-2013 06:09 PM

Nice job ... can u give us an approx. on the weight ?

fordornothing 07-29-2013 03:10 PM

I have no idea on that part, before the bumper, the pickup weighed 8,450. Now, well its probably close to 8,700- 8,800.
