What Brand?
I am torn on tool brands, between Snap-On and Mac Tools for school. what brand do you all think is the best for Diesel Locomotive Repair?

For heavy equipment snap on is worthless to me. Id go MAC all the way. I have a lot of their 3/4 and 1 inch drive stuff and dang its nice. Thats what they mainly do is big tools. MATCO also has some nice stuff and seem to usually have better prices too.

OK Thank you!

Snap on is just a brand name.. i would go with mac or matco.. if i was still in the diesel mechanic business id probably have all brand new mac/matco tools by now.. haha
|
I am a Matco man myself....but the best tools are the ones that work and are cost effective. :c:

Have some Snap On and some Mac and I'd recomend the Mac :c:

Here in canada we recently had a matco guy coming around but his tools seem to be way over priced compared to Mac and even snap on. My box if filled with Mac and the odd snap on tool. Mac is well priced and there here every week which I like best.

From my experience the sales reps are about the only real difference in the tools. My experience has been pretty piss poor with snap on reps and pretty good with Mac tools... I like snap on ratchets more so but they wont warranty hardly anything and I haven't ever had a warranty issue with out Mac guy.

I'm a matco guy myself, but like others have said, a lot of it has to do with the tool guy. You couldn't get anything from our mac guy unless he already had it on the truck (even if you're paying cash for a new box).

Ive been all mac for years until all the local mac guys went out and left me with broken tools and a hard time getting them replaced. I use and buy snapon now since they are pretty much the only game in town. I prefer mac but stick with whoever offers best customer service.
