Diesel into srt 10
 

need some input guys the guy next door just recovered his stolen srt 10 minus his engine and a few interior parts ive got a 2004 5.9 with tranny that i picked up from a salvage yard--- what problems would we have installing the diesel into the srt 10--- i even have a 2004 diesel guage cluster we could use

First off why? I love diesels but an srt10. Oh well to each there own lol
Anyways to get the culminating in the easiest thing to do would get a wrecked cummins and just swap everything over, you will need the harness mounts gage cluster etc

I think turbostang missed some of that. Since you alrady have the motor,trans, and cluster, all i think you would need is the computer. Since its an SRT-10, the front suspension should already be beefed up but check the weight of the V10/trans versus the Cummins/trans. If they are within 200-400 pounds of eachother you should be able to reuse the stock front suspension. If its more than 400 pounds, id put the front suspension of a 2wd 3/4 ton on it. You will also need the cummins intercooler and radiator. This is just what i can think of off hand. Im sure there is alot of little things :c:

That's the problem with this kind of swap. The computer's bolted to the right side of the block. Nothing's impossible, just a matter of time and money...

and as everyone said there will be nickle and dime stuff that is going to come up with this swap. better off finding a wrecked donor truck and have everything on hand there!
you can probably find a rolled cummins for a fairly good price and sell one of the engines you have and almost pay for the wrecked truck :tu: jmo probably will save you a lot in the long run.

ive got a couple wrecked cummins trucks behind the barn that i havent finished pulling parts off of yet both 04's also --- I would give this guy the parts he needs off these trucks he is a vw diesel mechanic we call him Toolbox ---and is always giving me a hand on tractors, trucks and what ever the boys tear up he drives 1 hour each way to the city every day to work and thought he could tune a 2wd cummins diesel for mpg and with the reduced weight of a single cab short bed that is lower to the ground for less wind turbulance just might make a good comute truck but has never tried doing a swap so thought i would gather some ideas and info for him

oh if you have the wrecked cummins there its a simple swap imo. just a unplug from one truck and plug into the other. should be fairly simple with both trucks side by side. basicly anything that looks different, swap it out haha

I dont really either but to each their own. I would of thought that the insurance would replace the motor.

yeah they should if its a theft recovery. then go after the thief if he or she was caught

my understanding is last year when the truck was stole they paid him for it but it was recovered just a few weeks ago and he was contacted as the owner he let his agent know about it and told him he would like to have the truck but the insurance company would be concidered the owner because they paid him for the truck so he bought it back with a salvaged title from them it was found 1200 miles from here in a old wharehouse i was surprised they didnt remove more of the truck
