I had this done to my house and the guyus got payed way too much for what they did. i priced it up and could have done it for about 700-900 less than them if i had bought the insulation from Lowes and rented their machine. mu house has 2 attic spaces. i had them insulate the upper one (over 12ft tall origional celing) and it's like 10-12" thick. the lower attic (this is the accual celing height in the house now) when i get to do it will be ~ $400 for insulation (~$400 for the "rental" that gets refunded appon being returned) maybe and it'll be ~4-6" thick.... just what i've experenced.....

I am getting ready to start one, using these directions. Is an 8 foot spacing on the 6x6's going to be enough, or do I need to go to 5 foot spacings? And how hard is it to do the concrete floor after the shop is built? I can't afford that much concrete yet, but I REALLY need a workspace before winter. I can live with a dirt floor for a while.

Whit 09-09-2007 06:56 PM

8' spacing for 6x6 is great............I wouldnt be fraid to go 10' actually...............keep a 3/12 or 4/12 pitch on yer roof and all will be good for snow load.

you can do the concrete after the building is up but ya wont be able to pull the truck inside to do it so it will be wheel barrow time and some real good buddies...................skidsteer works great for this

2001shrtbedcummins 09-09-2007 07:00 PM

I know some guys here local that do concrete pumping. Might look into that. That way you can get the guys to just pull the hose in there.

Whit 09-09-2007 07:25 PM

I have pumped many many yards of concrete..........yep works very well but sure is spendy

2001shrtbedcummins 09-09-2007 07:37 PM

it will be easier and less backbreaking than a wheelbarrow though.

Hey Whit, where abouts is this place of yours? I may be on my way down to pick up a truck for a friend and might stop by to say hi.

Wyatt Earp 09-08-2008 08:57 PM

Whit 09-10-2008 05:42 PM

whell its been awhile since I built the shop but I finally got insulation in the attic today.....finally

its amazing that in 7 days this shop was up and it took all these years to get the insulation in :ouch::ouch:

now it will be cool in the summer and toasty in the winter..............Doc remember how hot it was in there when we worked on yer bumper ?:humm:

Looks Good Whit... Only thing to add being an ex-truss salesman/engineer use diagonal bracing on your trusses. i have made twice the $$$ on alot of jobs because a small breeze came by and knocked down an unsheathed job.

Dr. Evil 10-21-2008 08:50 PM
