Removing paint from Ranchand bumper

WOuld a hot tank take paint off of a Ranch hand front bumper? I dont really want to sand or sandblast it unless i have to.

Whit 02-08-2011 08:52 PM

its powder coated so pretty tough stuff

7.3 Cowboy 02-08-2011 09:20 PM

Yeah I thought of that after i posted then went outside to see if it was paint or powder.

Whit 02-08-2011 09:23 PM

so why ya want the paint off:humm:

7.3 Cowboy 02-08-2011 09:24 PM

Its starting to come off in some places so i thought i would take it all off make sure there is no rust then use a spray on rhino lining on it

Whit 02-08-2011 09:28 PM

the Rhino lining requires a roughed up surface to adhear to so a grinder will do just fine......been there done that and it works very well, sticks like glue

7.3 Cowboy 02-08-2011 09:32 PM

Really? I think it woul dbe a pain grinding everything especialy all the round pipe on it

Whit 02-08-2011 09:35 PM

sandblasting is yer best bet but with patience a grinder will work too

I've used a rosebud tip on an Acetylene torch to warm 10" areas of the powder coat and then followed immediately with a sandblaster, made short work of stripping the powder coating. I used the Black Sand / slag for media and it worked great. :rocking:

keep in mind if yer going to Rhino it then ya dont need to remove the powdercoat just buff it up rough
