i have a friend of mine who smoked his tail lights by painting the outside to match his truck, it would look good, but he never keeps up with his truck.

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-18-2007 07:55 PM

torch, turn the acetylene so it smokes alot and hold the lenses over it, messy but works, then spray a little clearcoat over the inside to hold the smoke to it, ive done ghost flames that way when painting, great effect.

i have hazed the outside of my lenses then lightly coated them with black paint the shot them with clear coat on my 02 z71 since the factory tail lights have the ugly amber lenses for blinkers turned out nice on a black truck

A friend of mine smokes his taillights by using clear coat an black die. I forget the ratio he used. But he said its dependent on the manufacture for ratios and also how dark you want them

its because you didnt use enough silicone:ph:

skinnysfd 05-14-2009 09:56 PM

I have the recon smoked just like in the picture. The only thing you have to do is put a little bit of 100% silicone down with the gaskets they send and you won't have a problem with leaking. I also have a sunroof and they never leak, but others have had problems with them leaking but once they put a bead of silicone down the problem stopped. I got mine for $60 off e-bay i think.

My wife has smoked cab lights from Recon. The bases are black, LED lights and the lenses are smoked. No leaks as of yet :woot2:

i used model car window tint, you can control how dark they get, and then clearcoat overtop of it all and you should be good to go and in all youll be into it for about 15 bucks

ian also explain your procedure please i have about 90 lights i want to do

mudn_1 05-26-2009 11:05 AM

I did mine the same way as Ian!

first sand the housings
then clean with a grease and wax remover
wash off and allow to dry
apply adhesive promoter
then spray with niteshades in very very light coats to desired color
wait a few minutes and apply clear, or wait 24hrs and sand with 1000-1500grit, and polish then apply the clear coat!

the niteshades works well, but it will crack if you apply it too fast, so apply very slowly in several very light coats! I am happy with mine, but every now and then they look brown in very bright sun!
