53 Series Detroit boost

I am looking at putting a set of twin turbo's and possibly propane on my early 6v53n and i was wondering what kind of boost it will handle and if I am going to need a bypass blower and or any internals from a 53T :dixie:

There are a couple Detroit guru's on the 4btswaps.com site, they would be able to help you out.

the compression ratio is higher on the naturally aspirated engines its around 21 to 1 for the natural the turbo motors run about a 17 to 1 so if you run too much boost its easy to fry a set of rings id say you could handle 10 to 15 lbs but thats just a guess the pistons would help alot and detroits had different valves for turbo and non-turbo engines and a bypass blower would help efficiantly greatly

Thanks for the info. I think i am gonna look into it and see what the best option is. probably the turbo pistons and heads i would think. Maybe just get a spare turbo motor for when i blow up this one :c:

i dont think the heads are different just the valves but i guess putting on new heads is easier than swapping vlaves out you have a very cool build planned im interested in seeing how this turns out i have an old neighbor who is a detroit fanatic and he got me into them not only is he crazy about them but hes very knowledgable with them and he even has a frankenstein truck hes building with a 4-53. its a natural 4-53 so hell be doing about the same thing both your options sound very viable keep the forums updated
