clean oil/diesel stain on concrete??

what cleaner works for removing or reducing diesel and oil stains in cement, like on a nice driveway? I have a pressure washer available, along with being willing to get whatever soap/solvent I need...

stkdram55 06-30-2009 05:49 PM

i hear vinegar works to clean concrete:humm:

greasemonkey 06-30-2009 06:02 PM

someone told me oven cleaner over PM, I'm familiar with using that on degreasing metals but I'm worried it might bleach or etch the cement.

DB Admin 06-30-2009 06:14 PM

concrete colored spray paint :U:

abadcat 06-30-2009 06:21 PM

Coke a cola

Whit 06-30-2009 06:24 PM

good ol Tide and a stiff bristle bruss..............in my shop I use floor dry and do a jig on it ......stain all gone:c:

greasemonkey 07-02-2009 12:17 PM

DM, I don't think the paint would stick to the oil spot. maybe I should just rubber coat the driveway.

unfortunately it's not sealed so I don't know that floor dry will help. I'll try the dancing tide technique though. maybe a detergent/floor dry/coke combo!!

DB Admin 07-02-2009 03:06 PM

hehe its a good idea tho :D

I have found that there is no 1 solution for removing oil stains. I have tried many different ones and sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. The sooner you can get at it the better. This stuff works pretty good Clean Oil Stain, Driveway Oil Stain, Concrete Oil Stain Removal, Cleaning Oil Stain

toy4xchris 07-03-2009 03:33 PM

I use oil eater sometimes it take a a bit of scrubbing but the stuff will eat away just bout anything and its environmentally friendly since I live in stupid tree huggerland

NebraskaHD 07-03-2009 03:41 PM

I just use oil-dry and work it in real good with ur boots

Colotow 07-10-2009 06:13 PM

I have had good luck with tide, and have also mixed a goop of my own, equal parts tide, dawn dish soap and coke. biggest thing is the cleaning it as soon as you can, don't let it sit.

I've heard of using concrete powder, never tried it.

Baking soda works great on asphalt. I've only used it once on concrete and it did get the oil up. I wipe up as much as possible, then sprinkle baking soda on it. Rub it in lightly. It will turn dark where there is oil. Inside I waited a day then swept it up. Outside I just let it sit till it rains. Stain is gone and so is the baking soda.

i've used brake parts cleaner with good success it lifts the oil out of the concrete and then wipe it up

strokedout96 09-15-2009 05:23 PM

muriatic acid will clean it right up. you can use it to clean the whole driveway to if you are going to seal it. but for a stain just pour some on and cover the whole stain and wait about fiften or twenty minutes then rinse with plenty of water. be very careful to NOT get it in your eyes or on your skin. you can buy it at most harware stores.

NevrKnow 09-15-2009 08:54 PM

Will that work for silicone too? Spraying my tires has mine looking like a jig-saw puzzle. New house, old lady's getting mad. I told her it only shows up when it's raining! :D

We've used all kinds of products, so far are the quickcrete concrete cleaners and PURPLE POWER....of course you can ask anyone that was at dyno day......I've got so many vehicles leaking on the ground there's no reason to even try!

PSD 09-15-2009 10:54 PM

Muriatic acid can eat away at your driveway also...
Brake cleaner works great. I had a nasty leak running on my drive way for a long time until I started to clean. I had huge oil and fuel spots everywhere. I picked up some brake cleaner and that worked perfect. Only thing is, I needed a lot of cans. After it was cleared up, I noticed that my driveway has small cracks everywhere where the spots were. Woops...
If you dont want to spend the money on brake cleaner; Soap, water, brush.

What I found out that works excellent is mineral spirits. I was doing a nasty dirty job on a truck and made quite a mess on the floor so we use the washer washer solvent to wash the floors and it worked exceelent. After ready the ingredients on the bucket its Mineral Spirits... Buy it at you local NAPA store for part washers...

I USE BRAKE CLEANER WITH PAPER TOWELS IMMEDIATELY. IT WETS UP AND RELEASES INTO THE PAPER. I LOVE MY DRIVEWAY, ALMOST AS MUCH AS MY TRUCK.

Dr. Evil 01-17-2010 01:12 AM

There is a product called Citrikleen....its is hands down the best degreaser Ive ever seen. Its also biodegradable, non toxic and wont hurt your driveway.

i've tried muriac acid, i've tried dish soap, i've tried purple power, i've tried brake cleaner, kitty littter, a torch, carb cleaner, drive way cleaner. noting worked on stains i've had in my drive way. they were a few years old and just getting bigger.
the best thing i have ever used, and the only thing that ever actually worked, was "pull it out" made by chomp

it works great, just pour it on spread with a broom if neccessary, wait untill it's dry then sweep it away with the stain. it's taken fresh to 8 year stains away with out a problem lol

K80 06-20-2011 12:28 PM

Where do you get this chomp stuff?

K5trailrunner 06-25-2011 07:40 PM

The best most economical , most effective cleaner for grease id Dawn detergent and a squirt bottle of water . It's great for your plumbing pipes especially your kitchen . Good old friendly advice from an old ass plumber . Oh , for the EPA people , it's safe for the duckies from oil slicks . Think about it
