Mine. Built it myself; mocked up on the truck then pulled off to finish weld and paint.

is it solid plate with holes drilled or did you cut out a design. did you use the stock mounting points for it. sorry alot of questions cant really see pics at work and forget to look when i am off work. has anyone put theres together with a 110 v welder or know if the hot max 175 amp or equal to it welder. on a tight budget but didnt wanna buy the little craftsman or knock off brands of the 110 v
|
I used 1/4" plate as well.
Cardboard and duct tape are your friends... build a full mock up bumper out of cardboard then use those pieces for templates. Unless you're into AutoCAD and machining that's the easiest way. |
yea did that class in school liked it but dont have the software for it looks like ill be doing cardboard and maybe masking tape little cheaper then duct tape. do you think the 175 amp would be plenty to weld i have welding experience worked for toro and walker stainless so know how to weld just a little rusty
|
I can't help you there.. I can weld too and I know our welder kicks out over 200 amps, we rarely go there and it does just fine. If it's something I rely on I take it to my buddy that went through welding school, he knows a lot better than i do and can make one beautiful bead.

Wondering who here would have templates for some of these bumpers... I smoked a deer last night, and well, I'm going to need one for when I do the paint job on my truck.. can't have a bashed bumper on a nice rig right? I'm especially looking for a template for the top part, and will be modifying the lower part to my own taste. I like the idea of push bars, but they can make working under the hood a real PITA. I am a little autocad literate, so that format would work fine for me. If anyone can help me out with any of this, that would be *really* appreciated... All the work I've seen here looks great!

Hehe, yep!, I've actually got most of it drawn up now in 3D, Fellow around here has a CNC plasma cutter I'm going to use to cut it out, Leaving "hinge" points in the bends so you can bend it into shape before welding it. Going to use 5454 aluminum (the stuff they make dump boxes out of) in 3/16, it should weigh around 40 lbs.
Other than that, I bought the new paint, cab is off, frame is POR15'd, New engine is ready to drop in and all pretty too. I figure in about 10 days it'll be good to go... can't wait, it'll have been a month without wheels for me. Yes, I will post pictures, but it'll take a while before I get the bumper built. |
