I think their's a 9.5 14 bolt a 10.5 14 bolt.

Both have 14 bolts on the cover. The cover on the 9.5 is round. The 10.5 is a hexagon ish.

I've never seen a 10.5 in a 1500 just heavy 2500's and...

I just went through the same thing with a 94 truck. It took a insane amount of bleeding to get a stiff peddle.

Are you sure you bench bled the master cylinder properly?

I researched this awhile back since I have a sbc that runs on propane and my own bulk tank. My opinion was the minimal power gains I could get with a stock 6.5 didn't out way the risk.

Yes your on the right track. Get a working LP and go from there. I like to run power and ground directly to the LP just to rule out any wiring issues before replacing, but I'm a cheap bastard....

Not sure what LP Detroit is running but a stock 6.5 lift pump does make a repetitive click. ...

Do your homework on the 6.5. Make sure it suits your needs. They are fuel efficient and cheap to work on compared to other diesels, but don't think that your getting the power of other diesels.
