48RE please!
Okay, I asked for a quote a couple months ago but I figured I should start a new thread instead of bumping the old one. Last night my trans died on me. It feels like the 2nd gear band broke but I'm not trans guru, so don't quote me on that! The long of the short of it, I need a trans.:argh:
The truck is a 2005 2500 4x4 (same as in sig). It gets used everyday in urban traffic, unloaded. A lot of stoplight to stoplight with a few blasts from a red light for good measure. When it does tow, it has around 10k lbs hooked to the hitch. The area I live is pretty mountainy (is that a word?!?) so the auto gets a workout. I need something relatively inexpensive that is going to hold up to what I throw at it. My only mods so far are in the sig. I will eventually delete my cat, add an intake and upgrade the programmer to a Smarty or an Edge w/ Attitude and that is it. From my understanding, I wouldn't need any billet shafts or anything too crazy. Just a good, strong, basic trans. Please feel free to include your recommendations along with the quotes. You are the experts, I just drive the thing! Please provide me with a detailed quote including the trip to 97132 along with warrenty info (if any). Thank you so much for your time! |
PM for you

Give me a call tomorrow. I can put together a build estimate for ya. I have a core transmission in stock for your year.

Wow... :s: I need to save up some more money! :ouch::argh:
(Just to clarify, I'm not saying that you guys have bad prices. I'm saying that I'm a broke SOB!) I do have a question, if I go the route of buying a complete replacement trans do I have to have a certain shop install the trans to keep the warranty or may I do it myself? |
With ours you can do it yourself. But you need to either replace the cooler, or have a trans shops flush and flow test the cooler. The little aerosol cans won't cut it.

Got the trans apart and there is no reusable part except the case. :argh: Apparently the previous owner did a number on the poor thing. I think I have a game plan now, though. At least that is good news. Thank you, everybody, for the quick quotes and answering my stupid questions!:c:
