5.9 Cummins or 6.4 PSD?

Which is the all around better truck, the 06-07 Cummins or the 08 6.4 PowerStroke with deletes? Both will get a tuner, exhaust, cold air intake, and intake manifold. Which gets better mpgs? Keep in mind the 6.4 will have deletes. Will the 6.4 motor/tranny last with proper normal maintainance?

you dont hear about many recalls or problems with the cummins compared to the fords.
cummins with a 6 speed is my vote

The cummins has been around longer & it's proven, but those dodge automatic tranny can't hold up like the FORD Torqshift 5-speed 5R110

Now guys dont act like the Cummins is indestructible, I know countless people with commonrails that have had to replace a $3k set of injectors. They're good engines, but they have their problems. As long as you have all the deletes on the 6.4, and a tuner to turn the EGR off, I dont see why you should have any problems.

MPG's will still be better on the 5.9, but the 6.4 (with deletes) should get 20 on the highway, 22 if you're trying hard, so its not bad. IMO, the Ford has a better body, interior, suspension, and tranny, and the Dodge has the advantage in the engine bay.

Funny, I bought a 06 5.9 cummins in july and its averaging fuel mileage at 15.5 hand calc. Driving 20 miles hwy and 20 miles city every day. I replaced the air and fuel filters, strait piped the exhaust and put a diablo predator programmer on performance/economy setting. Im baffled at my mpgs even with the truck recalibrated for 33" tires (actually measure 31.5"). So I'm now looking for something else unless I can fix this one to get better mileage

i get 13 with my dodge and it runs like a raped ape??? and all newer truck are going to have, if you will -early injector failures- they cycle many more times per stroke like 7 so compared to the old cummins they dont last at all but there is a reason, better usage of the same amount of fuel. the same amount of fuel is burning more completely to help pass EPA BS. all newer diesels will struggle with injectors because of the stupid high pressures and the # of cycles per stroke of the piston.

I hear both ways. Some guys get great and some dont. Maybe some of the Cummins guys arent hand calculated and going by the lie-o-meter.....

27-29mpg hwy here no complaints :hellox:
