buying a 94 F250 7.3 turbo

I am going to buy a 94 f250 7.3 turbo - 2 wheel drive - 162,000 miles. This is a beautiful truck very well maintained. It is a southern truck no rust.

I am wondering if this a good engine and if this is to many miles. How many miles can I espect to get out of it.:hellox:

Terrible engine-get a gas one. JK. My 97 7.3 turned 277,000 this week. Still pulling strong.

Congrats,
Tim

94 7.3

Thankx for the info. This truck will be my last i hope. Pull a heavy popup camper - poontoon boat- and a utility trailer ( not all at the same time lol ) I wonder about fuel consumption 18 mpg or so I hope. Got to be better than gas.

Again thankx Desiljim:hellox::tu:

Is it a Powerstroke? Or a turbo IDI? They had both in 94...

In 1994 you can find out real easy if it is a powerstroke or an IDI 7.3L diesel by the vin number. The 8th digit in an IDI is a K and the 8th digit in a powerstroke is a F.

If it's an IDI, make sure you get the SCA's in the coolant if it doesn't have them already.

Tahks for the info

Its a idi not ps. I still wonder about the rearend. What about the coolant additive?

Thankx for the info

The 7.3 IDI can suffer from cavitation if the SCA's aren't maintained in the coolant. Read this link, it will tell you everything you need to know about cavitation and how to prevent it with the SCA's.

Thanks for the info. Not sure about this truck it has 162,000 on it. I am concerned about this SCA stuff. If I tested it and it was OK do you think I should buy it not knowing how long it had not been up to par?

I can't afford to buy the truck and have to put an engine it or have an expensive repair. Is cavitation a concern in all late model Desils? Want a Desil but am concerned about the cost of repair.

Thankx for all the info Desiljim
